Cynthia's place was great. We took the gua gua into town and she met us downtown to take us to her place. It was secluded, safe, and clean. Jose was amazing. It was my girlfirends birthday and he wanted to throw a BBQ, which we politely declined. The beach and town are both close walks.

Nice bungalow really close to the LG beach and La Playita! Cindy was really nice and always ready to help. Good place to crash!

There was a small mix up with the units, so I was not in the one pictured. That said, I saw all three units because everyone staying there got along so well that we hung out at one another's places. All the units are excellent. The units have a large yard that is separated from the dirt lane by a thick and tall hedge. Very private. My unit was large, very clean, and had an extraordinarily nice kitchen. Cindy was great at communicating with me before I arrived and I enjoyed talking with her while I was staying there. Jose, who manages the property, is an open and wonderful man. He is funny, kind, and caring. Everybody in the community seems to know and respect him. I highly recommend this place and these people.

The bungalow was great! The property that the bungalow is on is gated, feels safe, and is beautiful and relaxing. Screens were intact on every window. We did not need to use the mosquito net. Everything was as-pictured. The bungalow is located in walking distance to two beaches. We spent almost all our time at Playita, which is GORGEOUS, and only a short walk down a beautiful, secluded road near the bungalow. We walked to the other beach, in town, to take a whale-watching boat out. Cindy was excellent in communicating and making arrangements, even when our phone/wifi service was unreliable while traveling. Wi-fi at bungalow was seamless. We met Jose briefly. He knows everyone in town, and we got the sense that no one would mess with Jose -- we felt completely safe on his property. He is also very friendly. Please note, the neighboring property has a lot of chickens/roosters/turkeys. They are very loud from about 4am to 9am. The fan being on helps block the noise but not completely. Also, there is a fruit tree that reaches over the bungalow's metal roof. It drops fruit occasionally through the night and can be very startling. We embraced it all as part of the experience, though. Catch up on sleep on the beach the next day :) Walking to the bungalow at night, after dinner in town, it is very dark, but we never felt threatened and always arrived safely. We did not feel threatened our whole stay in Las Galeras, and it should be noted that we are very obviously non-Dominincan in appearance and our Spanish is really poor. Like, REALLY poor :) We had a very good stay.

Hi Jessi, We loved having you and are so happy you enjoyed the bungalow and our little village so much. Unfortunately we can't do anything about the chickens, but we are trying to figure out how to keep the mango tree from dropping fruit onto the roof at all hours. I imagine it would be startling! Based on your review, we will be buying a few flashlights to leave there for future renters. We don't have a lot of street lights in the area - great for star gazing but not so great when walking home late... Thanks for pointing it out. Being able to walk to La Playita is fantastic, but there are several other nice beaches one can walk to within an hour or so. Or, if you prefer, you can get there by boat or on horseback. Jose can help guests arrange either of those options if you visit again :-) Thanks for staying with us! Jose and Cindy

We loved the little bungalow. Very private, and I loved having the butterflies and hummingbirds surround us everyday. For anyone that dreams of a remote getaway this was it.

While I didn't get to meet Cindy; she was available by phone, helpful and genuinely concerned that everything be great. Her property manager José was awesome. He went above and beyond to make this a great trip. I reccomend them and can't wait to visit again...thanks!

Response from Cynthia:
Hi Leonardo, I was hoping it would work out for us to meet the day you left. So glad you had Jose's second phone so we could at least talk. He said you plan to come back in July (?). We will definitely have to meet then. It's not so crazy busy as now! Thanks for staying with us.

It was a perfect stay with Jose and Cindy in the bungalow! Jose has been very very helpful and was the perfect host and chef. He fixed everything if needed. I had contact with Cindy before we arrived, she gave us a perfect description of the way from Santo Domingo to Las Galeras so we could find our way driving ourselves. She even phoned the car rental for us to check that there was a car for us when we arrived in Santo Domingo! That was very very nice of her! We booked the place for one week but ended up staying the whole 3 weeks of our vacation. Everything is nearby and we found the little bungalow charming. One of the weeks we had the most fantastic neighbours from Quebec, so we even made new friends. For us it was the perfect spot and Jose the perfect host!! Thank you.

I'm glad it worked out for you to stay longer. It was fun visiting with you and Steen last night. You've inspired me to visit Denmark but probably not 'til the snow melts. Jose will be happy to hear how much you appreciated having him right there. He is definitely in the right profession. He loves doing what he does! Take care, Cindy

Cindy, really. No one calls me Cynthia.

My life motto, which seems to work MOST of the time: Que el viento se lleve tus problemas. (Let the wind take your troubles away.)

I'm fairly well-traveled and had never stayed in the same place for more than 2 or 3 days during any of my travels, though I was often gone from my northern California home for months at a time. Then, because I’ve always been drawn to “end of the road” places, I “ended up” in Las Galeras. I moved here a year later to try it out and never went “home”. I’ve explored most of the DR, but I’ve lived on the Samana Peninsula for almost 10 years and now know it quite well.

Though I have a full time job, the ocean, sun and coconut trees make me feel like I'm still on vacation. Sure, I miss some things about life in the good ole USA. Flying, live music (blues, bluegrass, alternative, jazz), backpacking, my fellow volunteers at Sonoma Land Trust, downhill skiing, high speed internet, wine tasting, second hand book stores, Home Depot, The Golden Gate Bridge, Sierra Club "dog hikes", and my granola-crunching, tree-hugging friends, but I love it here.

My Promise: If you come here as my guest, I promise to do whatever I can to make sure you have a great time. I want you to go home thinking that working, saving, planning, organizing and packing (passport, sunscreen, insect repellent, iPhone charger, swim suit, camera, flip flops, iPod, paperback book/s, umbrella).......and then hauling it all to the Dominican Republic and back was worth it. (And that maybe you’d even recommend it to a friend.)

Hope to see you soon.
