About this listing
In a cruise-ship free area of West Bay, Luz Dulce overlooks the beautiful, quiet, and safe Turtle Crossing development just a short walk from West Bay. Climb up the hill and be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic Caribbean view; you'll also be in great shape at journey's end. Superb stargazing. Breezes keep the house cool and the bugs away. 3 BR, 2 Ba, upper and lower balconies, full kitchen, A/C, beautiful pool, and a short walk to fantastic snorkeling/diving at West Bay Beach.
The Turtle Crossing neighborhood is one of the loveliest on the island. At the southwest tip of Roatan, and a 10-15 minute walk from West Bay beach, the house features a spectacular view, with two decks where you can eat or relax in hammocks. Inside, a large master bedroom is open to the rest of the home. Two smaller bedrooms on the lower floor feature double beds. On the windy side of the island, Luz Dulce benefits from cooling breezes that keep the bugs away. Because the space is off the beaten path, you will not be overrun by cruise shippers on the days when they are in town, and you can see the huge ships entering and leaving the island harbors.
Turtle Crossing features a beautiful pool. We have always found times when we can enjoy it by ourselves, and times when we can socialize with other guests. Down the hill, a walkway leads to a small palapa on the sea, with steps leading down to a natural rock platform. On calm days, you can jump off and snorkel or swim. On rough days, it's a wonderful place to sit and watch the waves. Taxis come here, as does a fruit and vegetable truck and a fish seller. You can also take the shortcut through the woods and be at West Bay beach in about 12 minutes. Walking in the other direction is the delightful Kismet bar/restaurant at the Meridian, right on the water. A local phone is available pre-programmed with numbers that may come in handy.
Interaction with guests
There is a book of tips and advice that you will find when you reach the island. We are also happy to provide additional tips based on our many trips to the island. If something is not covered, we have a full-time manager available to you, and we can answer you through this website as well.
Other things to note
Luz Dulce sits above the parking lot, and it is a fairly steep climb to the house. Because of this, we do not recommend bringing very young children, though we think the house is excellent for families with children older than 6-8 (you know your kids better than we do). Everyone always comments that the view makes the climb completely worthwhile; we also enjoy that we are always in better shape when we leave than when we arrived. While we do have A/C, we use it only on the hottest days due to the wonderful breezes. Our Internet connection is 1G. If you would like to bring your own Roku box, Netflix works well here, although some of the offerings are different, and it's unusual to be able to get English subtitles.
Short term (1-2 weeks) rentals are given an allowance for utilities which usually covers conservative usage (*excluding AC usage). No allowance on Long term rentals. The Association has quiet hours that begin at 10:00 p.m. Since several people who work on the island live in the complex and surrounding area, please refrain from loud music and loud talking on the balconies after that time.
