Great check-in experience
100% of recent guests gave the check-in process a 5-star rating.
Tiny home glamping with an ocean view in a 17' Alto aluminum camper. Suitable for 1 or 2 adults. Margaret or Johannes will welcome you and explain the features and operation of the camper while practicing safe social distancing. Walk or drive to a secluded nearby beach, quaint fishing harbour and multi-use trail. Great location on Canada's Musical Coast close to Celtic Music Centre in Judique, Mabou attractions and Port Hood beaches. En route to world famous Cabot Trail scenic drive.

The space
Inspirational living with an ocean view in a bright, modern fully-equipped camper with heating and air conditioning. A cozy, private alternative to a motel room, cabin, or crowded campsite. Close-to-it-all getaway spot for anyone seeking tranquility and relaxation in a beautiful country setting by the Sea. Perfect for visitors to the island, especially creatives, spiritual seekers, outdoor enthusiasts, equestrians, birders, artists , artisans, musicians, Celtic music fans, writers, romantics, cyclists, motorcyclists, and beachgoers.

Guest access
The Alto camper is situated on a spacious lot surrounded by fields that are home to native wildflowers and shrubs. The campsite faces the ocean and a lush green horse pasture. Also on the property is a tiny equestrian centre called Horseplay!, featuring a pale blue babybarn/studio and a white tent over the arena in the warmer months. The barn is used part time by Angel, Margaret’s half-Arab horse who is the subject of her book, Meant To Be. Hosts live in the blue cottage on the property.

Please note that we do not rent the Alto camper for private use, other than at its present location.

Other things to note
Guests must climb two small steps to enter the Alto camper.

We provide all bedding, cookware, dinnerware, etc. necessary for your stay. If you are in need of something extra, feel free to ask us.

A large wooden picnic table, camp chairs and a screen-covered fire pit with grill are set up at the site. Bundles of hand-cut kindling and firewood are available for purchase ($5).

Early or late check-in is possible upon request, if the camper and host(s) are available.

No smoking is permitted in the Alto camper.

Note- PLEASE refrain from burning incense, or wearing perfume or colognes inside the camper. The scents from these products permeate the bedding, comforters, upholstery and drapes, necessitating extra cleaning or laundering, on top of our already-heightened hot water washing protocols.

When getting ready to check-out, please inspect all areas in the camper, especially the narrow spaces on either side of the king bed, to make sure you have all of your personal belongings.

After check-out, housecleaning staff takes an inventory of all items. Prior to the posting of your Airbnb review by the host, you will be asked to pay replacement cost for any misplaced or damaged items.

Please note that if you have allergies, in August-September, Goldenrod and many other wild plants are in bloom on the property and in the surrounding fields.

Finally, please appreciate that this special custom-designed Alto camper is a tiny home used for personal travels. It is also a character in Margaret's memoir, Meant To Be, An Awakening Journey. Please treat it with appropriate respect.

(BTW, the Alto camper is in truth a mechanical angel, and is always touched to receive thank-you notes from guestsLOL).

Location

Judique, Nova Scotia, Canada

Lovely rural setting on Cape Breton's west coast with a view of the ocean and fishing harbour. Nearby unspoiled beach has it all- grassy dunes, shallow areas with warm water, making it great for swimming, and collecting driftwood, beautiful and varied rocks and stones, and beach glass. The perfect location for a romantic bonfire at sunset, courtesy of Mother Nature.

Daytrips to all major destinations and attractions on the island are possible from our location. Short driving distance to Port Hood, Mabou, and Judique. We are just off Route 19, en route to Inverness, whale watching sites in Cheticamp and Pleasant Bay, hiking in Cape Breton Highlands National Park and the world famous Cabot Trail scenic drive. Approx 1.5 hr to Baddeck, 4 hr to Fortress at Louisbourg, 2 hr (180 km) to Caribou Island ferry in PEI.

At this time, a limited number of restaurants in the Judique, Port Food, and Mabou area offer takeout meals only. Your food from home, or takeout, can be conveniently stored in the refrigerator in the Alto, and reheated in the microwave.

I am a horse lover, candle maker, amateur musician, and author of Meant To Be, An Awakening Journey, from FriesenPress. As an Airbnb host and creator of Horseplay!, an equine playhouse, I take pleasure in offering hospitality, sharing stories with people from all around the world, and introducing guests to the magic of Cape Breton Island (referred to by the locals as "God's country"). I am in awe of our Creator and Universe, and strive to live life to the fullest wherever I am. These are a few of my favourite things: all of Nature and especially the Sea; horses, horseback riding and driving; Indian motorcycles; watching and feeding wild birds and animals; African Grey Parrots and Arabian horses as companions; Cape Breton style fiddle and any music with harmony and soul (bluegrass, country, classical, and sacred), jamming with friends on flute, mountain dulcimer and a bit of fiddle, choral singing; yoga, line dancing, aerobic walking; The Arts (opera, music, theatre and tasteful comedy); Good Health- aiming for wellness and vitality with healthy food, drinks and activities; Life on Earth- supporting our Planet and her people toward a peaceful, sustainable, ethical, affordable lifestyle, and assisting others to awaken to the joy of co-creation with God.
