Drift was everything I thought it would be. And somehow even better. Stu's gorgeous oasis in San Jose is the perfect jumping off point in Baja for solo travelers, groups of friends, or really, anyone who appreciates a space that is thoughtfully and simply designed, gorgeous, with a focus on being communal. (Yet still private enough to relax and find solitude.) Easy to get to, yet hard to find in the best way possible. Angel (who greeted us and helped us throughout our stay) put a smile on our faces every time we saw him -- especially when he had Churros in hand to share. Stu was always around to share local tips and a laugh. The other travelers staying at Drift were so easy to get along with. San Jose is really charming. I miss Clara (the dog) already and we made some friends to keep in touch with. I'm already trying to figure out when I can make my return trip.
We have nothing but great things to say about Drift and the all the staff members. The place is an oasis for explorers and San Jose del Cabo is a fantastic location for people looking to explore authentic Mexico without feeling overwhelmed by tourists like in Cabo San Lucas. Try and stay at least three days; the location is perfect for day trips and there is so much to do in the town itself. One to two days really is not enough to explore all this area has to offer.
Having the kitchen stocked with fresh oranges for juicing and fresh ground coffee beans made morning so pleasant. It was so wonderful connecting with other like minded individuals in the morning and planning the day with the map on the wall. I'm already missing my freshly squeezed OJ. It was great being able to just help ourselves when we wanted.
Sunsets on the rooftop and pre-dinner chat by the fire are a must. The staff was incredibly helpful and warm in their interactions. It was very evident that our experience was important to them. Stu also hosted an Amazing Tequila/Mescal Tasting for the guest and I highly recommend for you to inquire about it.
Can't wait to come back again.
Perfect place to stay in San José! The staff is wonderful, friendly and welcoming. The spaces are atractive, simple, functional and comfortable. Thanks for a great way to start out Baja trip!
First of all, I traveled by myself (early 30s female) and Drift was perfect. Everything about this place was amazing, from the surprise hot chocolate in the morning to my new best friend Clara the dog to the decor. It's super quiet (although I could hear music from a nearby bar each night...but it was actually really nice) but right next to everything in San Jose. And the staff is the absolute best. Stu and his service rocked, and everyone who worked there was super personable and related super well to the type of person who wanted to stay at Drift. Finally, Stu has an awesome reputation in town. I really liked everyone who stayed at Drift too - I got a little stressed out when I went down to the resort area and saw all the supertourists...the Drift and downtown San Jose crowd was a lot more chill. I'd totally come back.
Un gran lugar para hospedarse en San José del Cabo, la ubicación es buena, la atención es excelente, las habitaciones son muy practicas, tiene información básica de los alrededores, es una excelente opción para no gastar de mas en hospedaje.
My husband and I had a wonderful week-long stay at Drift. We were completely comfortable and felt like we were truly coming home after our adventures each day. We met great people also staying there and appreciated Stu and Angel and the rest of the staff's care and attention. The blackboard map in the kitchen with suggestions for restaurants and day trips was super helpful. And we will never forget the desert dog, Clara!! She is pure love and beauty.
Awesome place, impeccably maintained! Angel welcomed us with a tour of the grounds and was a gracious host. Would definitely stay there again!

DRIFT is a brand based on the idea of independent travel - an alternative to package tourism and all-inclusive resorts. It is for travelers - our guests prefer a basic do-it-yourself and social atmosphere over expensive luxury amenities and services. Money saved on accommodation can instead be spent on real adventure! We like using Airbnb as our booking engine because it attracts guests who are open to new ideas and experiences in hospitality.
Angel will most likely be the guy who opens the gate and gives you your key. He is around most evenings if you need some fresh towels or ask him to bring you a tasting menu if you want to try one of our hand selected premium tequilas! Sariel is our manager, Leo is our cleaning lady and Benito is our gardener/maintenance man. Chef Eduardo can sometimes be booked as guest chef for large groups.
