We split this house with another couple with two kids the same age as ours. So four adults and four kids (2 1-year olds and 2 4-year olds). The set up was perfect for this age group. A safe and cozy yard that's level to the house, which allowed for daily al fresco dining and smores at dusk and lots of running around with bubbles and toys during the day with plenty of shade to protect them from the mid-day august sunshine. Then a few steps down (stairs plus a dirt path ramp down which was much safer for little ones and now as intimidating) was direct access to a pebble lined lakefront which we enjoyed every day, especially thanks to the lovely neighbors next door who greeted us on our first day and lent us a four person float which became our kids favorite activity all week. Inside we had enough room to spread out, although if you have a very young child with an early bedtime note that the doors have slats on them which does not make for a very soundproof upstairs and there is a train that passes by a few yards away a couple of times a day, sometimes late a night. It's quite loud but it never woke up our kids though. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware plus various spices and condiments. Having some cozy pillows and throws in the living area and screened porch would be a big plus and would be an easy way to make this house feel more like a home.

My family (wife, son, daughter, daughter-in-law and 3 year old grand son) have been to two other places on the Finger Lakes and this was by far the best. It was the cleanest by a long shot and also felt the most like a real vacation house as opposed to a refurbished, slightly upgraded fishing cabin. The refurbished downstairs was very nice, as was the screened-in porch and all four bedrooms upstairs. My wife and I commented to each other that our bed, though a double and therefore smaller than we're used to, was very comfortable. Too, the kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, etc and everything in it was very clean when we arrived. That was very much appreciated. The only real downside was that there is a train track about 150 feet from the house, and while it was true that a train went by only twice a day (at about 10:00 p.m. and then again at 1:00 am), when it did go by, of course, it was relatively noisy. (At that distance how could it be otherwise?) At 10:00 pm, this created no difficulty, but the 1:00 pass-by was certainly disconcerting especially the first night or two. By the third and fourth nights it was less so, as we then knew the scheduled and didn't have to anticipate yet another train as we were trying to fall back to sleep. More advance warning on this score, though, would have been helpful.

Dianne was a great host who was always available via text messages but not overbearing. The house was clean and accurately described in the house description. Thanks for a great stay!

Great house for our family weekend get-away - wine country, lake front access for kayaking (we rented from Reagan's right down the road who deliver), and lots of Adirondack chairs for circling a campfire & s'mores making!

We came up to the Finger Lakes Region for a family wedding at Belhurst Castle. Other family members also rented homes in the area. The area along Seneca Lake is beautiful! There are many, many wineries and breweries in the area! Watkins Glen at the south end of the lake is a charming town with a state park. There's a hiking trail that goes to a gorge with waterfalls. There's also a public pool that you can go to for a small fee. The town has cute shops and restaurants. At the north end of the lake is the town of Geneva. Geneva is bigger than Watkins Glen and also has that old town charm. Dianne's house is centrally located on the west side of lake Seneca. The house is very nice with a large kitchen and bathroom with a small shower stall on one side of the house and large living/dining room on the opposite side. The kitchen has a small table for 4, but the dining room seats 8 comfortably and we pulled the 4 chairs from the kitchen when we had extra company. The dining room and living room run up the back side of the house (lake side) separated from kitchen side by the staircase and a wall. There is a screened in porch off this area facing the lake. Upstairs there are 4 nice sized bedrooms. Two bedrooms have a double bed, one with a queen bed and one with two twin sized beds and one full bath, average size, with a tub/shower combo. The house is not air conditioned but there are fans for every bedroom upstairs. The only problem was that outlets to plug them into were not always in easy reach in each room. It is an older house so it doesn't have as many baseboard outlets as a newer home would. I suggest that renters bring some 6-9 feet household extension cords so the fans can be positioned were you want them. We did have a very unusual hot and humid week at the lake. We were told by local people that the area has been in a drought and the lake water was warmer than usual. During the day and evening hours, we had to bring fans down from upstairs. There are plenty of chairs outside the house but we brought some folding beach chairs with us so we could sit at the lake edge too. There is only one TV in the living room (dish network) and no WIFI Internet access. We brought a portable DVD player with us for single use for my grown son with autism. He has plenty of his own DVD's. Dianne was a very nice Host. She communicated with me right away when I had questions. We paid $50 for the beds to be made up with sheets upon arrival - one less thing for us to pack. The house has a vintage/antique charm along with modern conveniences.

I am a retired teacher and love the Finger Lakes area. Over the years I have enjoyed filling the lake house with eclectic furnishings. Mother of five, grandmother of eight ,it is a great family gathering place and my family has fond memories of time spent here. I am sure that you too will feel the same after you spend time here!
