Our artsy wooden house is perfect for people that enjoy a calm atmosphere away from the main tourist trails. The place, Bahia Rica, is perfect for relaxing in a hammock and enjoying the jungle sounds, or you can go kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling or fishing with us.

The space
Bahía Rica Fishing & Kayak Lodge is at Punta Cuchillo, Paquera on Costa Rica's west coast. We can accommodate up to 10 guests in our artsy wooden house. We are renting the house as a Bed & Breakfast.

The house has 3 rooms and a bathroom. You share the kitchen with other guests if we have someone staying in the cabin "El Bambu". Each room has a double and a single bed. In the biggest room, we can add an extra single bed when needed.

We also have a separate small cabin that accommodates 2 persons (you'll find it as a separate AirBnB listing under "Bamboo cabin w/private beach in jungle setting").

Note! Before Covid-19 we rented out separate rooms in the house, and guests shared bathroom. Due to sanitary restrictions we now rent the house to only one party.

Be aware that the guesthouse is based on a hill, and to get down to the beach area and breakfast area you have to walk a LONG stairway (256 steps). So if you have issues walking stairs, this would not be the place for you.

Bahía Rica kayak and fishing lodge is based on the properties of La Nicoyana a small private nature reserve. So it is very pristine. At Bahía Rica we live close to the nature and take pride in protecting our surroundings.

Guest access
The guest house has two balconies with nice hammocks, a little library and some board games. There is a small kitchen if you want to cook for yourself, or you can order DINNER from us for $15 per person (We do NOT cook lunch). We do home cooked meals on request.

You have free coffee and tea available at the guest house, and we have good drinking water right from the tap.

From the guest house (and the Bamboo cabin) you have to walk over 250 steps to get down to the common area close to the beach - but it is well worth it as we have our own tranquil beach with palm trees.

We offer several tours as well (please ask for availability and prices):
Sport fishing
Sea kayaking
Bioluminescent night kayaking (when there is no full moon)
Sunset & Full moon kayaking (during the week of full moon)
SUP - Stand Up Paddleboarding
Boat tours to Isla Tortuga with snorkeling
Boat tours to Isla San Lucas (the prison island)
Snorkeling and monkey boat tours
Whale and dolphin watching tours (in the season)

Other things to note
Breakfast is included in the price.
Options for other meals:
1) There is a small kitchen in the guesthouse so you can cook for yourselves. Be advised that the closest grocery store is 8km away, in the little town of Paquera
2) We cook dinner on request ($15 per person) - please check with us as it is not available every night
3) Pizza delivery
4) Casa de Manito - a local restaurant 5 min walk from our place (book in advance)
5) Go to one of the restaurants in the little town of Paquera
(There is also a small restaurant close to the ferry landing that is open until 4pm - only 1,5 m to walk)
6) Have a fancy dinner at Isla Chiquita. The island is located right in front of us and you can get there by renting a kayak from us, or order boat pick-up from the restaurant

Location

Punta Cuchillos, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Punta Cuchillo is a small non touristy village, but we are conveniently close to the ferry and buses.
It is a safe neighbourhood, and you'll get a feel of a typical Costa Rican lifestyle. Since there are very few people living here we still have an abundance of wild life. Prepare yourself to meet monkeys, anteaters, skunks, armadillos, butterflies, bats, parrots and a lot of other wildlife.
We also have pets on the property; Bella our dog, 4 cats and some neighbor dogs that likes to hang around here.
