Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
A large private room with ensuite shower room and loo. Windows all look directly out to sea. There is a double bed, so the room is suitable for couples or an individual. Room retains traditional features (a fireplace with marble surround, stripped floorboards) but the windows are double glazed and there is central heating for comfort (no draughts). Wardrobe and chest of drawers for your own use. Breakfast is provided in your room. Steps outside leading up to door plus stairs up to your room.

The space
Our house is a well-maintained Victorian villa with spacious rooms. We often have changing displays of artwork and enjoy making sure our living environment is a beautiful and reflective thinking space. People often say how peaceful our house is. It's probably the aspect of the house - lovely sea views, great layout and lots of light. Our daughter is a musician, so we don't mind some noise. Apparently the acoustics downstairs are excellent!

Guest access
The room is on the top floor and has an ensuite shower room. Downstairs we have a family kitchen dining/lounge area but it's not totally off-limits. There's a utility room with a washer downstairs you can use. There are some rooms that we like to keep private - David's studio, our bedrooms, and my work room. You'll see which rooms are private as they'll have a notice on them. If it's a fine day and you want to sit in the back garden, that's fine.

Other things to note
As a precaution against coronoavirus, for your safety and ours (Dave is 72), we have blocked all bookings till end of May 2020. This may extend, depending on WHO and Airbnb advice. We are in contact with all guests who have already booked with us. Thank you in advance for your understanding, and please stay safe and well.
Sometimes the mobile signals can be a bit ropey in Ventnor, especially Vodafone for some reason. But you can use our wifi (Sky Broadband).
Please be aware that we have steps outside leading up to the property and then a flight of stairs up to your room.

Our neighbourhood is very quiet and mostly residential, although there is a hotel nearby and a B&B round the corner. Our neighbours don't seem to mind when we host our art show open evenings - but that maybe because we always invite them! People like their gardens and we try to be supportive and keep an eye out for each other.

I live with my husband David and daughter Izzy in a lovely Victorian villa in Ventnor looking directly out to sea. David and I have enjoyed bringing the house back to life over the last 4 years. We work closely with Ventnor Exchange and open the house up for Ventnor Fringe (2nd week in August) annually. I work in HR during the week as a global learning technologies specialist, and as an artist on weekends. David is a retired Professor of Fine Art and is a professional artist full-time - his painting studio covers half of the top floor. Izzy is at college and is a young artist and musician. We love living on the Isle of Wight and enjoy Ventnor's infamous 'microclimate' - we're able to grow lots of exotic plants in the back garden, although not as many as the beautiful Botanical Gardens nearby. David is used to hosting, and is fun and very chatty. Please be aware that he cannot hear very well, so he lip reads - you don't need to shout, just make sure you look at his face when speaking. I also enjoy meeting new people outside working hours. The room we hire out for airbnb is private and self contained - if you want to just rest/relax quietly by yourself, that's absolutely fine by us. If you'd like to chat that's also fine by us - we have a family area but it's not off-limits. Breakfast will be provided in your room so you can choose when to get up and have it. There are a number of really good places to eat and drink nearby if you want recommendations. And the beach is gorgeous :)
