Interaction with Guests
Typically either my husband of I meet the guests upon arrival & have a chat about the suite as well as provide information about locking up etc. Other than that guests are free to come & go as they please. If a guest has any questions or concerns they are welcome to either come ring the doorbell to talk to us, phone or preferably send an email/text message. We're a busy family & aren't always around so an email/text is typically the best way to get in touch.
Renfrew is a well established neighborhood located NE of the city's downtown core. We are a 10 min walk to either the Telus Spark Science Center and the Calgary Zoo, two of Calgary's biggest attractions. The city's train system (called the LRT) is located at the Zoo entrance and can take you too all quadrants of the city (fees apply for purchasing tickets).
The park which is located across the street from our house used to be part of the Zoo as well way back in the 1950s & 1960s! Today, it is called Tom Campbell's Hill Natural Park. With FANTASTIC views of the city year round & prime views of New Years, Canada Day as well as Stampede fireworks, it is a great place to go for a walk. Just be prepared for lots of dogs b/c it is also a relatively busy off-leash park.
Our community is slowly being revitalized with lots of new residential construction. Go down the hill to the community of Bridgeland/Riverside for a coffee or breakfast as well.
The city's train system, the LRT, has a stop located at the Calgary Zoo which is approximately a 15 min walk from our house. You just need to walk south across Tom Campbell Hill park then down the hill to the zoo entrance.
The closest bus stop to our house is approximately 10-15 min to the north just off of Child Ave & Park Cres NE. There are a number of other bus stops to the west of our house down the hill in the community of Bridgeland (Center Ave & 12 St NE both have many bus stop locations).
If you are driving, very easy & quick access to major roads such as 16 Ave (Highway 2), Deerfoot Trail (Highway 1), Memorial Drive and Edmonton Trail. As in quick, approximately a 2-5 min drive to any of these roads.
Other Things to Note
We are a busy, active family and it can get noisy in our house so guests need to be aware of this before booking so that they don't set unreasonable expectations of total silence during their stay. That being said, we try to make every effort to keep the noise level down (ie running in the house) between 8am-8pm. Just keep this in mind before you book!
Leave the unit as you found it, remember that someone else will be using the suite after you leave! Check-in is between 4-10pm, Check-out is noon (12pm).
Any damages will be assessed a reasonable fee which will be deducted from your security deposit. Please also wash all your dishes prior to leaving, do not leave a sink full of dirty dishes.
Absolutely no smoking, drugs, partying or rowdiness allowed. This is a family oriented household so please respect this.
Access is not given to the yard for any reason. If you have a dog you are traveling with please make sure you bring a leash for walking & bags for picking up after them. We live across the street from an off leash park so taking your pet out for exercise is very convenient and they'll appreciate it as well!
There is NO TV in the suite.
Please refrain from cooking foods with strong or lingering odors that take weeks or months to dissipate.
No candles for fire insurance reasons!
Living room with foosball table. The couch converts into a double sofabed. All bedding provided during your stay.
Wonderful experience at Ellie's! Super clean and what a fabulously comfortable bed! Such a delight for a traveler! I highly recommend this sweet spot...
Even though I arrived a little late at night, the owner was there to greet me. I could have done it all by myself since I already had from Leslie all the required information to make my way inside the apartment. Of course it makes it more friendly and friendly they are, both Leslie and his husband. They are only one door away and was invited to knock that door anytime I would feel the need to do so.
The place was impeccable. There was plenty of everything, towels, sheets, cookware, dinerware, you name it. On top of that, there was coffee (which I might have abused of), tea and cereals. Stuck on the fridge Leslie left plenty of rebate coupons for some of Calgary attractions. Being an outsider (tourist) I never heard of those coupons. I had time to use 2 of them.
The installations are quite recent and in top shape. Wifi worked perfect all my stay. I could park in the street in front of the apartment.
Would I recommend this apartment? I would certainly do and I would go back there anytime without hesitation.
This place in a fantastic location.. Not too far from town. Walking distance to the science centre - which is fantastic! , the zoo and river front. The apartment is in a basement area below the family home and is large and light filled. We stayed with our 6 year old son and it was perfect. He had his own room and we had ours. Ellie made us feel very welcome. Just a note for those addicted to TV ... There is none. We found this to be a bonus and enjoyed quality family time together when we weren't out exploring. We would stay again. Thanks Ellie.
Felt like home in all the best ways. From the moment of arrival until and after checking out, I felt welcomed and appreciated. I can't thank Ellie and her family enough. The Suite itself is amazing, and the pictures really don't do it justice. As advertised it's very close to the C train, and I doubt you can find a better view of downtown Calgary then from just steps outside this suite. If public transit's not your thing driving wise it's easy to get to/from, and cab fare from downtown should run you less than $15 (it was $13 from 17th ave and 5th street). The suite itself was spotless, the shower was great, and the bed was better than you'll find in most higher end hotels. Ellie was very easy to work and coordinate with and responded very quickly. Every city needs a place like this with people like Ellie.
Very friendly hosts, very nice and clean appartment at a beautiful spot of Calgary. Loved the great view from Tom Campbell Hill, going downtown on the one side or for a run in the parks on the other side. If we go back to Calgary this is the place to stay! Thank you Ellie!
