Interaction with Guests
Typically either my husband of I meet the guests upon arrival & have a chat about the suite as well as provide information about locking up etc. Other than that guests are free to come & go as they please. If a guest has any questions or concerns they are welcome to either come ring the doorbell to talk to us, phone or preferably send an email/text message. We're a busy family & aren't always around so an email/text is typically the best way to get in touch.
Renfrew is a well established neighborhood located NE of the city's downtown core. We are a 10 min walk to either the Telus Spark Science Center and the Calgary Zoo, two of Calgary's biggest attractions. The city's train system (called the LRT) is located at the Zoo entrance and can take you too all quadrants of the city (fees apply for purchasing tickets).
The park which is located across the street from our house used to be part of the Zoo as well way back in the 1950s & 1960s! Today, it is called Tom Campbell's Hill Natural Park. With FANTASTIC views of the city year round & prime views of New Years, Canada Day as well as Stampede fireworks, it is a great place to go for a walk. Just be prepared for lots of dogs b/c it is also a relatively busy off-leash park.
Our community is slowly being revitalized with lots of new residential construction. Go down the hill to the community of Bridgeland/Riverside for a coffee or breakfast as well.
The city's train system, the LRT, has a stop located at the Calgary Zoo which is approximately a 15 min walk from our house. You just need to walk south across Tom Campbell Hill park then down the hill to the zoo entrance.
The closest bus stop to our house is approximately 10-15 min to the north just off of Child Ave & Park Cres NE. There are a number of other bus stops to the west of our house down the hill in the community of Bridgeland (Center Ave & 12 St NE both have many bus stop locations).
If you are driving, very easy & quick access to major roads such as 16 Ave (Highway 2), Deerfoot Trail (Highway 1), Memorial Drive and Edmonton Trail. As in quick, approximately a 2-5 min drive to any of these roads.
Other Things to Note
We are a busy, active family and it can get noisy in our house so guests need to be aware of this before booking so that they don't set unreasonable expectations of total silence during their stay. That being said, we try to make every effort to keep the noise level down (ie running in the house) between 8am-8pm. Just keep this in mind before you book!
Leave the unit as you found it, remember that someone else will be using the suite after you leave! Check-in is between 4-10pm, Check-out is noon (12pm).
Any damages will be assessed a reasonable fee which will be deducted from your security deposit. Please also wash all your dishes prior to leaving, do not leave a sink full of dirty dishes.
Absolutely no smoking, drugs, partying or rowdiness allowed. This is a family oriented household so please respect this.
Access is not given to the yard for any reason. If you have a dog you are traveling with please make sure you bring a leash for walking & bags for picking up after them. We live across the street from an off leash park so taking your pet out for exercise is very convenient and they'll appreciate it as well!
There is NO TV in the suite.
Please refrain from cooking foods with strong or lingering odors that take weeks or months to dissipate.
No candles for fire insurance reasons!
Living room with foosball table. The couch converts into a double sofabed. All bedding provided during your stay.
We had a short but really pleasant stay at ellies place. The Apartment is very big and clean. There is enough space to stay for one month. Also sie provides a lot of stuff to cook. Ellie was absolutely helpful and easy to get in touch with. If we ever visit calgary again, ellie would be our choice again.
Ellie was a wonderful host and the suite was perfect! It is spacious, very clean, fully stocked with anything someone travelling could need, and went beyond expectations. Would highly recommend this suite for anyone wishing to spend some time in Calgary!
Ellie was a great hostess, and she made it easy to text her for any questions that you might have. I would highly recommend her place it's, nice, quiet, clean, lots of amenities , and very close to a super off leash dog park. If I go to Calgary in the future, I would not hesitate to book with Ellie again.
Ellie and her family made us feel very welcome. We could come and go as we pleased, and the suite was even better than we'd expected. The location is amazing, especially for a family. Being so close to downtown as well as major highways and public transit, as well as playgrounds.
Ellie stayed in contact by text message, which was very helpful, and she even provided coupons for various activities in the area.
It was great to just buy our own groceries and have our meals at home or pack meals and snacks to go. Not huge restaurant expenses. The kitchen is well equipped, and has everything you could need. My only suggestion would be a blender, as I couldn't find one, so I didn't buy ingredients for smoothies. I had no issues making anything else I needed or wanted to make.
Ellie specifies in her profile that they're a busy family so there are sounds of life in the house. They are not overly loud for a family, and very aware and considerate and definitely respectful of their guests. We could hear activity a bit at certain points throughout the day, but nothing I would complain about, by any stretch. I mentioned that they shouldn't hold back on our account, so I hope they were able to be comfortable in their own home while we were there. Since their kids are young, the noises aren't late at night, so that's good too.
My boys enjoyed the foosball table, and the books and toys Ellie and her family have shared for guests to use while in the suite. The boys also liked the children's dishes available in the suite. They could pick their own colours! :)
We are very happy with the experience we had, and my youngest didn't want to leave at all.
