Old Post Office House is a 160 year old, stone-built cottage in Stilligarry, South Uist and is our family holiday home that we share when we're not there.

It's a 20 minute stroll or 15 minute brisk walk to Stilligarry's pristine white sand beach and the three mountains, Beinn Mhòr, Hecla and Beinn Choradail are at hand for walkers. Fishing, birdwatching, cycling, field sports and surfing are world class.

Old PO House is a cosy home from home in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

The space
For us, the old Post Office is all about being cosy after a great day out on the beaches, lakes or hills of the Uists. Of course there is central heating and there are two working, fireplaces downstairs! All the beds have feather duvets and pillows. The king size master bed and single bedroom have just had new beds and pocket sprung mattresses.

Even though it's a historic building, there is high speed fibre WiFi and a 43" Flatscreen Smart TV with HD FreeSat to keep you entertained. There is a dvd player if you want to bring DVDs for the kids. There's also hifi separates with a Bluetooth receiver and aux input.

For the musicians among you there is a guitar and ukulele. Please take care of them as they were a gift but feel free to enjoy them.

We are gradually upgrading things and the kitchen has just had a new dishwasher, oven and hob. There's also a tumble dryer in the shed now which you're free to use.
(Please note if you have a pacemaker the hob is an induction system.)

There is a spacious enclosed garden for kids to play in.

All the electricity is sourced renewably - heat is currently from an oil burner but we'll switch that out with a heat pump when it keels over!

Guest access
The whole house is available for guest use.

Other things to note
Please make sure to check you're able to get to the island before booking, there are two ferry ports you can get in to: Lochmaddy and Lochboisdale. but things do get booked up in July and August.

You can get ferries from Oban, Tarbert or Uig on the mainland or Barra or Harris if you're touring the islands.

The plane from Glasgow is excellent car hire, taxis and a bus are available at the airport which is about 15-20 mins away.

The Hebrides are one of the most unique landscapes in Europe. The combination of mountains and crystal clear sea make them a paradise for those who love the outdoors.

Surfing, Wind and Kitesurfing can be practiced a short walk away and on many of the local beaches. The cycling is excellent, Those who like to watch birds will be rewarded with lots of seabirds, golden eagles and white tailed fish eagles within the surrounding few miles.

For those into country sports, the fishing is excellent and there is the opportunity to shoot in season. The house has a gun locker for those here to shoot, you'll need to bring a padlock if you want to lock it. If you have multiple dogs or gundogs they are most welcome to stay in the large, dry shed.
