3. Cottage + sleepout [book both for up to six guests!]

ADDRESS: 594 Manuka Terrace, Twizel.

HOSTS: The Menard family (Amy, Jason and three kids) live in their family home 60 metres away. You are given total privacy but we’re here in case you need anything. We love sharing local tips on the area!

COTTAGE: The cottage is 50 square metres and entirely for the exclusive use of guests. Great shower with good pressure and lots of hot water! Both bedrooms have queen beds. Need room for more guests? You can also book our MenardsNZ sleepout on Airbnb.

KITCHEN: There's an oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, toaster and jug. Tea, coffee, salt, pepper, spices, herbs and cooking oil are supplied. We also supply tea towels and Ecostore dishwashing liquid.

GARAGE HANGOUT: You've never seen a garage like this! Communal space shared with other guests and your hosts. Come hang out and enjoy! Retro video/gaming lounge with wall-to-wall VHS & DVD, plus old-school gaming consoles (NES, N64, Xbox). Musical instruments, turntable and vinyl, over 2,000 CDs, bar, dartboard, recliner chairs to take in the epic views, board games, and more!

COTTAGE ENTERTAINMENT: There's a smart TV with Netflix and other apps, books, board games, stereo and an iPod with awesome tunes! There's a toy box and books for kids.

PETS: Our entire 10-acre property is fully fenced. Let your dogs enjoy life in the country! If they can catch a few rabbits that's great – we're trying to get rid of the rabbits so we can grow more plants and trees. Cats are also welcome.

LAUNDRY: Washing machine and laundry liquid are available in the cottage. There's a clothesline with pegs outside. A dryer is in the garage if needed for rainy days. There's also a fold-down clothes drying rack above the log burner in the cottage.

HEATING: Heating is with a log burner. Kindling, logs, newspaper and a lighter are supplied. You can locate more kindling and firewood in the coat room on the cottage deck. Please ensure you fully latch the door and secure with chain.

DRINKING WATER: The water is pure spring water from the mountain. It's been tested and is the highest quality water you can get - enjoy!

ECO-FRIENDLY: The cottage is insulated with natural New Zealand sheep wool insulation. The floors and joinery are finished with non-toxic environmentally safe oils. The walls and ceiling are painted in eco-friendly paints. There was no treated timber used in the construction of the house. All the dish soap and laundry liquid are eco-friendly and free from nasty chemicals. Food scraps are composted and rubbish is recycled.

PROPERTY: The land is an ecosanctuary with amazing views of mountains in every direction! Experience the unique Mackenzie Region in its most natural state. There are over 21 species of native plants on the 10-acre property, many of them rare in New Zealand. Smell the manuka flowers and watch the snow tussocks blowing in the fresh mountain air. The owners are planting more native plants, shrubs and trees to attract birds - all part of their ecosanctuary restoration project. There is rabbit-proof fencing all around the land, including the driveway gate.

STARGAZING: MenardsNZ is located in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. Due to the lack of light pollution in this remote location, the stargazing is truly spectacular! There’s a large trampoline on the lawn - take some cosy duvets and pillows outside so you can lie down on the trampoline and stargaze.

Relax and unwind - you deserve a break. :-)
