The apartment and location are ok but I had my first ever negative experience with a host. I paid a $150 cleaning fee, then before I arrived I was told to pay $130 cleaning deposit. Which I did. To get this deposit back I was instructed to clean the apartment and take the laun…
Response from K. N. H.:
There's a first time for everything, and unfortunately this was my first unpleasant experience with a guest. First things first, the cleaning fee for my listing is $120. There is a separate cleaning deposit of the exact same amount $120 that I ask of guest to ensure that check-out guidelines are followed and this has generally helped prevent guests from treating my home as a hotel. This was not the case with Nick. Also guests are not asked to "clean" the apartment and Nick was not asked that either. My listing clearly states online that my HOME is an attention to detail listing and that there are house rules and check-out guidelines. I would imagine if the guidelines are too laborious, one should not got through with the booking. Those house rules and check out guidelines are clearly listed online. The house rules are again written out when a reservation is confirmed by Airbnb and sent to the guest. Then a third time, the house rules and check-out guidelines are clearly stated. Nick checked in to my home and beyond corresponding with me in the very beginning about my Super needing to get in to the apartment, he never replied to any of my other emails until the very last day (we're talking over a week here) when I had to finally send a 5th email asking clearly in the subject line: Are You Receiving My Emails? He finally replied with a "YES!" and nothing else. He never made mention of the information in my emails - of which had clearly been explicit reminders to him of the checkout guidelines including to be sure ALL necessary used items were included with the laundry to be dropped off and that the guidelines were followed accordingly and his cleaning deposit would be refunded accordingly. Of course those things were not included in the laundry, as Nick clearly hadn't taken the time to read my emails or the check-out guidelines and I had no way of knowing until my maid arrived, because of course Nick had not been responding to any of my emails. Then of course, once Nick has checked out, he decides to be speedy with correspondence - all of a sudden - asking for his cleaning deposit back. Unlike ANY other guest that has stayed in my home, Nick never once thanked me for the use of my home, offered any feedback of his experience while there (although I'd inquired multiple times to be sure all was well). My home to Nick had clearly been like a hotel where he expected to have no common courteous exchanges with the renter. I found that, along with his unwillingness to respond to emails quite rude. When I explained this to him and said of course I would be refunding the deposit by email, he found that rude - INSTEAD of apologizing that I'd been inconvenienced and paid for a maid who could not effectively complete her job because items were dirty. Nor did Nick acknowledge any remorse about ignoring my emails. I of course refunded the deposit and true to what could be expected of him now, he then leaves me a negative review. The FIRST I've ever received. I know that I did everything I always do to accommodate a guest (as all my other reviews affirm) and I'd expected on good faith that I'd have a polite and considerate guest. That was not the case and I would not recommend Nick, unless you tend to treat your home like a hotel. Mine is not. Having been a guest in other Airbnb Host homes, I find it quite appropriate to be thoughtful and considerate and accommodating to the host as I realize I am in their precious space and like to reassure them that I will take care of their properties with the utmost respect while showing them respect as well. Sadly Nick and I were not aligned well in this way.
Kimberly's property is amazing! Clean and good energy. The neighborhood also has allot to offer. Kimberly also is an amazing friendly host. She has everything laid out to work perfectly and has lots of patience explaining it all.
