Wonderful location, sitting in a plantation chair looking over the lagoon. The wonderful town is very close by on foot, with the Sunshine cafe serving fresh pastries & coffee. Batti is really worth a look to see what Sri Lanka is like off the usual track. Fabulous market every morning. The caretakers speaks little if no English but the cook who arrives before you wake has a little more. We ate breakfast & dinner at the house which was a real treat. Treated like kings. The caretaker arranged a boat trip to the end of the lagoon before sunset and dropped us back to the train station (a family of six for 300rs) although it's easily placed to walk to if you haven't big packs. Great rooms, fabulous beds. A superb spot for a lazy day or two. We had a wonderful time & we would definitely recommend.

I could sit on the veranda and watch the water and world go by all day. House is furnished with Sri Lankan antiques and caretakers did everything they could to make the stay comfortable. Nice break from hotels during tour of Sri Lanka and East Coast.

Ranjan's villa was a unique and charming experience. The house was lovely and had a beautiful view. The original features really added to the atmosphere and one could really feel the history behind the house. The host and the family were very helpful and accommodating. Ranjan even helped us to organise a driver at the end of our holiday. Although it didn't have any air conditioning, the fans were efficient and kept all of us cool. I would recommend this place to anyone visit Batti!

Arriving at Ranjan's villa we entered a different era! A step back in time. The rustic charm of the villa, the quietly helpful ways of the caretakers... things would happen almost invisibly around us. We were served coffee and tea (a whole tray of tea bags to chose from!), amazing piles of tropical fruit for breakfast, and a tasty lunch making us feel like kings and queens! The views from the reclining chairs on the veranda onto the lagoon and the fort were absolutely fantastic. Thank you for making this a very special stay!

We had a very nice stay. Our hosts were amazing to us. Very kind and always helpful. The room itself was fine. No frills and fairly basic but did the job. My one issue is the price. When compared to other places that we have stayed in around Sri Lanka it is definitely on the high side for the quality of room.

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
