Nestled in a beautiful oak grove, this delightful yurt offers tranquility, comfort and style for those who like the idea of camping, but don't want to "rough it."
A vanishing edge pool and hot tub are shared by all guests on the property.

We are in the midst of wineries and close to the river for swimming, whitewater rafting and hiking.

We don't allow dogs in this yurt but we have other dog-friendly options: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19593601 https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17944878

The space
The Blackberry Yurt is nestled in a beautiful oak grove with filtered sunset views. At 150 square feet it feels just right for two people, with a premium queen-sized bed and a small table and chairs. It has an attached outhouse with a compost toilet and running water, and luxurious semi-outdoor showers (shared) are a short walk away. In the winter months the yurt is insulated with a heater and an extra blanket; in the summer there is an electric fan.

Cooking facilities include:
* drip coffee maker (filters, coffee and tea provided)
* propane grill (propane included)
* 3-burner propane cooktop
* small mini-fridge
* outdoor dining table with patio umbrella

Please note that the cooking area is not covered in case of rain.

You can either bring your own cookware, utensils, etc. or you can rent a camping box from us for $35 per stay which includes all you need to cook and serve your own food for two people, including place mats, plates, drinking glasses, mugs, bowls, eating utensils, dish towels, cooking utensils, salt and pepper, fry pan and pot, plus more. Best to reserve in advance to ensure availability.

The yurt is located about 100 feet downhill from the parking spot -- we provide a cart for you to transport your stuff from your car to the yurt. The path is lit up at night if you arrive after dark.

Our vanishing-edge, salt-water un-heated pool and hot tub feature spectacular sunset views and are available for guests from 8am to dusk. Perfect after a daytime hike or local excursion, the hot tub is heated during the 2 hours before sunset.

We care about sustainability and the planet. We use unscented and chemical-free cleaners and laundry soap, and provide organic and biodegradable personal products for you to use during your stay. A cask of filtered, pure spring water from our on-site natural spring is provided in each unit, so no need to bring your own bottled water.

Wifi is accessible throughout the property but since we are in a rural area, internet service is often slow and intermittent. To our chagrin, we found out when we moved here that it is not possible to get reliable, fast internet in our area. We suggest the best way to experience all our property has to offer is to unplug, enjoy the birds chirping, listen to the breeze whistling through the treetops, and breathe in the fresh mountain air.

Guest access
Our 32-acre property is adjacent to government-owned open space and guests can wander the trails on the property and surrounding area. There are also two ponds to hang out by or for fishing, a hammock near one of the ponds, and a few areas for sunset-viewing and star-gazing.

Please note, we don't allow pets in this unit but we have other dog-friendly options, and there may be other guests with dogs here during your stay.

Other things to note
We are at least a 15 minute drive on winding country roads from any restaurant or grocery store. We are at 2,200 feet in elevation in the Sierra Foothills, so in the summer you should expect temperatures in the 90s (32 - 37 celsius) and in the winter we get a lot of rain and sometimes even snow (although it rarely sticks around for long). Best to check the weather forecast before you come so you can adequately prepare for your stay.

We are located about an hour from the Sacramento airport, about 1.5 hours from South Lake Tahoe, and 2.5 hours from San Francisco. All of these travel time estimates do not include traffic, so be sure to factor in traffic if you are traveling during peak times.

We are located in a forested area in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Northern California. Endemic to this area are spiders, ticks, mosquitoes, wasps, bears, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, and poison oak. It is entirely possible that some of the insect inhabitants may find their way into the yurt, either through an open door or by hitchhiking on your clothing. If you are uncomfortable with interacting with these fellow inhabitants of our region, this may not be the right place for you.

Garden Valley, California, United States

Our property is close to many hiking trails. Chili Bar Park on the South Fork of the American River is a 15 minute drive away and has a great beach and swimming area. There are multiple lakes within a short drive for paddle boarding, swimming, and canoeing or kayaking. Multiple river rafting trips take off from Lotus/Coloma which is about 20 minutes away. There are also lots of mountain bike trails and we can help connect you to a mountain bike tour company that will show you the hidden back roads and trails. The area is home to the famous Rubicon Trail for back road jeeps and other off-road vehicles. We are also located in the heart of Gold Country with lots of historical interest surrounding the Gold Rush - we are about 20 minutes from where gold was discovered in California.

We moved to Garden Valley, California in the Sierra Foothills in 2013 from Oakland/San Francisco where we lived for twenty years. Tamara grew up in Northern California and Nevada and has a deep knowledge of the region and will be happy to make suggestions for places to go that suit your particular interests. We love to cook and eat out and can give you lots of suggestions for restaurants and food and wine-related excursions. Ramon is a native of the Netherlands who immigrated to the U.S. in 2004 and in addition to English he of course speaks fluent Dutch as well as workable German. We have a 4 year old Manchester Terrier, Copper McPenny, and a Chi/Terrier mix, Felix de Leon (puppy).
