Although Pat and family were not home for the key exchange, they were accommodating and made sure that a friendly neighbor was nearby, which was handy as my fellow travellers and I did need his help at one point concerning the door locks--he answered immediately, which we greatly appreciated. However, the fact that one of the three doors didn't lock at all during the entire time we stayed was a concern to us. While the neighborhood was beautiful, safe, and close to amenities, nevertheless we are accustomed to fully secure housing, and would have liked to have been apprised of this issue ahead of time as it would have factored in our decision as to where to stay in Berkeley. While we were pleased with the location of the house, another issue for our party stemmed from the fact that, when this lovely house isn't opened up to airbnb guests, it is (or has recently been) home to pets, most likely a dog. If this is the case, it would be helpful to know in the ad, as one of us suffers from serious allergies.

The Reilly house made for a great base while property hunting in the area. With two daughters, two and three, renting a 2BR is almost always the better move over a 1 or 2BR hotel suite. Throw in trampoline, zip-line access, and kid toys and this airbnb listing becomes a no-brainer as a home away from home if you have kids. Pat was able to accommodate our extremely last second multi-night rental and was a pleasure to work with. Getting access to the unit was without challenge. Parking was not a problem on the driveway or street. Walkability is great with breakfast/lunch/dinner and grocery options a few blocks away. We picked up coffee from Peets almost every day. Our rental was in fact so last second that there was no opportunity to get the unit cleaned professionally prior to our arrival. Because of this, Pat and I made some special arrangements to lower the cost to make up for the fact that we would need to do a little bit of cleaning upon arrival. The entire process was fair and without surprises. We brought a pack-n-play for our two year old and used the lower bunk bed for the three year old. No issues.

Alexander was a gracious host, and neighbor Jim who greeted us was helpful and welcoming. Their home is located in a lovely and quiet neighborhood; we even saw 2 deer walking down the street one morning. The house has a nice flow in the public rooms, and it seemed like a happy place with a well equipped kitchen. It is a place best suited for 2 adults with children; it was cramped for 5 adults in that there was no hanging closet or storage space allocated for our bags and belongings. Alexander mentioned they were new at AirBnB, and while it is a nice home, it seemed that their concept was that we were house sitting their home and belongings, rather than that we were being accommodated as guest travelers. This is something that can easily be rectified, and I encourage Alexander and Pat to indicate their alignment with the AirBnB guest traveler concept on their listing so future guests will know they will have the space accommodations that travelers require.

This house was perfect for our short stay with our young children. They loved the play area outside and the back yard was a great space for relaxing and hanging out. Communication was prompt and plentiful and, overall, we had a very pleasant experience with our stay here.

About Pat

My husband Alexander and I live in our beautiful home with our 6 and 7 year old sons and dog Maxx. We love gardening in the back and front of the house and growing growing vegetables and picking fruit from the apricot, apple, plum, pear and almond trees on our small but verdant lot. We love entertaining in our private garden oasis and enjoy nights on the porch with our boys looking at the moon rise over the Berkeley Hills. We hope you love our home as much as we do!
