The studio/suite is nestled on our 5 acre property full of heritage fruit trees. The studio/suite is attached to our studio/gallery, a building designed by in-house architect and host Jorge Siemsen. The suite has heated concrete floors and a Murphy bed, perfect for your yoga practice, (mats provided!) A 10min walk takes you to Ganges along forest paths. Sit on the covered south-facing deck gazing at field and forest. Your stay includes complimentary use of our DIY wood-burning barrel sauna.

The space
The Salty Pear is a hub of artistic creativity. We love to host workshops and events in the adjoining Studio/Gallery. We like to call this suite our "artist residency" and will offer longer-term discounted stays for people in search of a place to work on a business idea or creative pursuit. Please inquire!

Some gorgeous design elements include a patio alcove built using Japanese Joinery, a Venetian plaster accent wall, custom built murphey bed and high-end finishings. The queen size murphey bed has a comfortable Canadian made "Douglas Bed" mattress with high-quality duvet & linens. The frogs will usher you to a restful sleep while bird song and rooster will wake you in the morning. The suite has a mini fridge, electric kettle, pour-over coffee, breville toaster oven & two burner electric hot plate. The heated concrete floor is cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. The 5 acre apple & pear orchard has all-day sun and there is plenty of pasture to find your spot of relaxation. On the property is a wood-burning barrel sauna available for complimentary use.

Guest access
The studio/suite is private though is situated in the same building as our studio gallery where there is gentle activity Mondays - Friday 10am-4pm. Ask about our weekend workshops, if one falls on your visiting weekend you may just want to join! The vibe is casual and you don't have to worry about noise levels, the walls are well insulated for sound. The sauna is also bookable to the public and may have bookings during your stay, but certain hours are reserved for only our overnight guests, please inquire.

Other things to note
As well as the queen Murphy bed, the studio/suite has a single pull out cot (the white chair in pictures) for an additional person (ie child). Bluetooth stereo provided but no TV (on purpose ; ).
The essentials (coffee, eggs, granola) for your first breakfast are provided. You may also request milk or dairy-free alternative. Take full advantage of the abundant choices of local organic produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, beer, wines and apple cider available all over the island for other meals.
Ferry reservations well in advance are highly recommended during summer months.
Not very suitable for the mobility impaired, very small children (depending on the comfortably of the parents), or those adverse to nature! Pets welcome, though please be cautious as the property is not completely fenced in and there are a lot of deer.
The studio/suite is fairly private but it borders on our neighbour's small organic working farm - so especially during the week you may hear farm-operation type noises like a small tractor etc.

Sauna:
As our guest you are entitled to complimentary use of the sauna.
The sauna runs as a DIY style co-operative that is bookable to locals online.
This means people bring their own water & towels, start their own fires and are mindful to keep the sauna clean. The sauna fits 4 comfortably. There are no staff on site to assist but we are happy to answer any questions once you book.
If you are not comfortable starting your own fire please notify us with a few hours notice so we can plan it into our busy schedules as it takes about 20-30 minutes to heat up. By using the sauna you agree to our liability waiver which is available next to the sauna.

The sauna operates to the local public during the following hours:
TUES-THURS 6am-8pm
FRI-MON 10pm-5pm
Outside of these hours you are free to use it without booking a session into the online schedule. If you would like to book a 90 min session within these hours, it is still complimentary, but please go to the online booking platform, create a log-in and use the discount code: STUDIO for a 100% discount. We ask this to avoid any confusion / double bookings.

A short ten minute walk down Rainbow Road leads you straight into Ganges - or - at the back far left of our property that borders along the trees there is a private gate that leads you to the beautiful forest trails of Mouat’s Park. Hang a left and follow the marked trail and it will lead you straight into the heart of Ganges. We have the best of both worlds - a beautiful peaceful countryside spot with a bustling little village within a half kilometre. Across the street is the community pool if you are interested in taking a swim, pool schedules are available online https://www.crd.bc.ca/ssiparc.

Many wonderful food carts available in the food courtyard located at the head of Rainbow Road. The town of Ganges is well known for its robust Tuesday and Saturday Markets (seasonal) full of local artisans and fresh farm & food purveyors. There are a number of great restaurants we would highly recommend (see pg 6), also within walking distance. If you are driving, this island has an absolutely magical amount of things to see & do.

Main amenities in Ganges: two large grocery stores, 3 liquor stores, an excellent health food store, 2 pharmacies, 2 gas stations, hardware stores, a hospital, plenty of art galleries, a pub playing live music, shops and plenty of places to eat. However there are no 24 hour stores.

I worked for years as a Script Supervisor in the Film Industry before having our two daughters and moving with my husband to Salt Spring Island to realize our vision for a more sustainable way of living. My husband, an architect from Brazil, restored the 1938 farmhouse where we live before building the beautiful gallery space that is part of the Salty Pear Farm, Gallery and B&B. We have two available spots on our property - the Camping Casita and Studio where you can stay to enjoy the many wonderful experiences that Salt Spring Island has to offer. We look forward to hosting you!
