The surrounding area of Granny´s farm you can see small agriculture where the majority are vineyards. The region is one of the largest grape producers on the island for making Madeira wine.
A few meters from the farm there´s a small grocery store where it sells a little bit of everything.
Above is the Levada da Fajã do Rodrigues, built to maintain the irrigation of São Vicente, originating in Ribeira do Inferno and ending in Loural. It has a course of 6471 meters, with 5,242 in open sky and the remaining 1,229 divided into 4 tunnels, the largest of which is 1,000 meters long.
The entire extent of the Levada is composed of the Laurissilva forest, which is the name given to a type of subtropical rainforest, composed mainly of trees of the lauraceae family and endemic to Macaronesia - a region formed by the archipelagos of Madeira, Azores, Canaries and Cape Verde. It has a greater expression in the highlands of the island of Madeira, where its largest and best preserved spot is found, having been considered, in 1999, by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, occupying an area of about 15,000 hectares.
