Our grade 2 listed cottage is in a quiet rural hamlet just south of Ashford but with excellent transport links to London and the lovely Kent seaside, countryside and many visitor attractions.

The space
Built in about 1850 with local ‘ragstone’ and traditional Kent peg tiles, our little end terrace cottage stays cool in summer but is toasty warm in winter especially when the log burning stove is lit! Everything about the cottage is small but it’s full of character with whitewashed stone, exposed brick and a tiled floor with rugs. We even have some of the original little window panes - the ones that look like the bottom of a glass bottle.

Of course we do have the usual modern home comforts like central heating, washing machine, fridge, freezer, microwave and double oven with a Belfast sink and hob set into black granite worktops. There is also a coffee maker for those of you who like a decent latte and we will make sure you have milk, tea and coffee on your arrival.

If you want to work during your stay, we have a very good 4g phone signal and reasonable WiFi speeds - or you could always have a soak in the bath followed by a good film courtesy of Netflix after a hard day.

Guest access
You have the whole house and exclusive use of a small seating area with arbour to the side of the drive.

Other things to note
If you need anything just ask!
Please don't leave it until you leave to say you would have liked to have something in particular in the house as the chances are that I have whatever you need and would be more than happy to supply it. Within reason - obviously if it is a treacle bender or a unicorn or something along those lines I might have difficulty but kitchen and bedroom stuff etc. - no problem.

The Chilmington Green hamlet is still rural although there are plans to build nearby and there are short walks from the cottage across fields or through a small wood. It is particularly quiet at night with no street lights yet we are within easy reach of Ashford, an up and coming town with a multi screen cinema, numerous restaurants and good transport links via train and the M20 motorway.

Down a quiet lane we are only 2.4 miles to Ashford International station (the Eurostar stops here) so are ideally placed for day trips into London (35 minutes by the high speed train) or for great days out to the Kent seaside and attractions such as Leeds Castle, Canterbury, the Kent and East Sussex steam railway and animal parks such as Port Lympe - even Calais.

The Kent countryside is beautiful with the white cliffs, Chalk Downs and The Weald of Kent not far away - there are several vineyards producing quality wine in the area.

If you like shopping we are just 2 miles from the popular Ashford Designer Outlet or you might like a trip to Canterbury with its historic old town centre and cathedral or the old Cinque port of Rye.

Of course you might simply want to break your journey before or after taking the ferry (27 miles) or tunnel (17 miles) so you can get a good nights sleep before the next leg of your journey.

If I can I will do it. I've always been in the sort of job that involves helping others or solving problems so if I can help, I will. I work from home now so I can be flexible and indulge myself doing the sort of things I enjoy like creating our garden or decorating the house. We live with 3 dogs and 2 cats - all friendly. We all love to travel (except the cats) - in fact we moved down here to be closer to France (and for the good weather you get in Kent). We are originally from Yorkshire (what's not to love) but until recently lived in the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire and have only been here 3 years. We are very happy with our decision to become southerners and are loving exploring Kent and Sussex in between road trips to France and beyond. When we go further afield we like to plan our holidays ourselves often booking accomodation once we're there so we can be flexible with our plans. Our last major trip was to China and one highlight of the trip was a stay in the home of a family in the mountains where the film Avatar was made and a day on a train with Chinese workers going home for New Year bonding with us over a bike magazine. We just love meeting new people to talk about their experiences of travelling - it's a major interest that we wish we could do more of and my travel wish list is getting longer daily. Airbnb suggests I share my life motto - I suppose this would be 'Don't worry about it until it happens!' Life is too short so enjoy it and take every chance to meet as many diverse and interesting people as you can. For me it's all about trying to understand the world from the perspective of others - so come on down to Kent, I'd love to meet you.
