The pod is 10x10 feet of beautiful Algonquin pine. It has lights and electrical outlets for charging your phones and laptops. A portable heater I provide, along with thick insulation in the walls and a steel roof, maintains the heat and you are cozy!

French doors with a sliding screen door allows you to lay in bed and enjoy the stars in the north sky. A window at the back gives you a nice breeze. The screened gazebo is a comfortable hangout with wraparound view of the pond and gardens.

The space
Sleeping in the pod is "glamping" in style. With a double bed and comfortable mattress you will feel much more comfortable than in a tent yet still get that sense of sleeping out in the wilds of Algonquin.

I'm a pet lover and like to travel with my dog so I am now accepting pets for the month of September and October to see how this goes. Email me about your pet and we will talk about it. The pet has to be kept on leash or under control so it doesn't run through the gardens or grasses. Bring your own bedding and a bed or crate for your dog.

Moose, bear, lynx, pine martin, snow shoe hares, turtles and foxes live right around us and if you are lucky you will spot one coming to the pond or traveling past. Nothing to worry about with these beautiful animals. They avoid us humans and go about their business of eating and raising families. Coming to the trees and pond are numerous birds including kingfisher, ducks, olive vested flycatcher, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, chickadees and blue jays. With the sound of the breeze in the trees, the warmth of the sunshine and the knowledge that all this wildlife is healthy and thriving nearby, you can't help but feel peaceful and one with nature.

The pod has a double bed, two side tables, a chair and a bench. There are three wall outlets and a power bar so you can charge your phones and plug in your laptop. There is a keurig coffee maker in the pod so you can enjoy your morning coffee before you head out on the trails or launch your canoe in one of the many lakes nearby in Algonquin Park. You are welcome to bring your own keurig coffee pods. We offer complimentary coffee and tea each day. Cream and milk are provided just let me know.

WIFI is available but this is the country so it isn't always the best - I recommend bringing a book :) Cell phone service can be unreliable but most of the time it works. If you need to contact me texting works best.

Algonquin Park is only a few minutes away. A car is needed to get there. I provide the $18 day pass, at no charge, which allows you entry into all the campground beaches, trails, the Visitor Centre and Logging Museum.

There are mosquitoes in the evening so I provide complementary BUGGED - an all natural essential oil bug repellent I make here. If you bring a chemical bug repellent please spray it on yourself outside. No sprays in the scent-free POD. No candles, incense or hair spray inside the POD. OK in the gazebo.

Guest access
You can sit by the fire pit at night and watch for shooting stars. Or sit in a chair on the tiny dock overlooking the natural, spring-fed pond beside the gazebo. It has lots of wildlife using it. Unwind as you listen to the wind in the poplars, the twang of the bull frogs and chorus of peepers in the evening. The screened in gazebo has a love seat and a comfortable chair for relaxing. It also has a cooler with ice packs on your first day for your food storage.
Rental of the pod includes use of a park day pass which is an $18 value. The pass is not available on the day you check out.
Canoe and kayak rentals are available in Whitney.
My house is close to the pod but you still retain your privacy. There is a propane BBQ with a shelter beside the gazebo for cooking.
All meals should be eaten in the gazebo or around the fire pit not in the pod please. The gazebo has a table you can use for dining. Cutlery, plates, bowls and glasses are provided. A jug of filtered drinking water is in the POD so you can make coffee and fill up your water bottles for the day.
There is no running water available. The shower is outdoors and is rustic but has an on-demand hot water heater for a good shower. Otherwise there are lakes for you to use to bathe after you hike or canoe. Take a container with you to pour water over yourself on shore - not in the lake. Not even biodegradable soap is ok for our fragile ecosystem!

Other things to note
The POD is close to my house in the backyard but you still have lots of privacy with all the foliage. I use the front of the house mostly.
I am near the highway and there is some traffic noise but mostly morning and much less in the late afternoon/evening. Weekends and over night is very little traffic. It is not a main highway.
Cell service can be erratic. Sometimes ok but other times I may not get your text. Some phones work better with mine then others. We may need to touch base in person.
If you choose to enjoy the day instead of going out to the Park then be aware I may have to water the gardens and cut the grass and basic maintenance on the property and buildings.
There is an outdoor shower with on-demand hot water but no indoor shower or running water. If possible bathe at the beach in Whitney or at a lake in the Park. No soap - even biodegradable - in the lakes though. Rinse on shore only. The day pass I provide entitles you access to the beaches, picnic areas, canoe launch and camp grounds for day use.
The bathroom for guests is an outdoor composting toilet with no running water. It is clean, spacious and odor free. Inside it has a large jug of water and wash stand with soap and a solar ceiling light. There is a hand towel, face cloths and two bath towels.
With this beautiful scenery comes a price...mosquitoes! They are mostly around in the evening. So please keep the doors to the POD and gazebo closed at all times. I provide a complementary all-natural, essential oil bug repellent you can spray on yourself and the screen doors before you enter and exit when needed. I make the product from the medicinal plants I grow here and sell it locally.

My property is situated on four acres surrounded by crown land in a quiet country setting without neighbors close by. There is a natural pond that attracts lots of birds and wildlife you can watch from the screened gazebo. At the corner of the property is a 5 km winding dirt road that goes past a marsh and wetland lake. I offer mountain bikes for rent to explore the area. McCoy Lake is close and is clean and beautiful for swimming. This small springfed lake is one km south and has good bass fishing with an area to launch a canoe.
The town of Whitney is 8 km away and has three restaurants, a chip stand, two gas stations - one with a mechanic - grocery store, liquor store, post office, gift shop and an outfitters store for canoe/kayak rentals plus any outdoor supplies and clothing you may need. Whitney also has a sandy swimming beach right in the town. The East Gate entrance to the park is a few minutes north of Whitney about 15 minutes from the POD.

I am a nature lover who likes to share with others the experience of walking through a forest, following a boardwalk beside a marsh, hiking a trail or paddling along a quiet lake in the Algonquin landscape. As a host I like to give people space. I am around to assist with anything you need. The rest of the time you can have the peace and solitude to read or write, and get lost in thoughts and daydreams.

During your stay
Text me and let me know what your plans are for the day if you know you may need something when you get back to the POD. If I know in advance I can prepare a campfire or have the shower ready or address any issues. If everything is good then no need to check in with me.

I plan my life of errands and maintenance and enjoying outdoors with my dog around this information. Sometimes I need to talk to you in person if our phones are not communicating through text. The ideal for me is very little interaction while you immerse yourself in the solitude and beauty of Algonquin.
