Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Some info has been automatically translated.
Birken House is located above a home based bakery in the grounds of a 110-year old farmhouse, and is rumoured to be the location of an original stagecoach stop on the Douglas Trail. The suite is south facing, with tasteful decor and big folding doors opening on to an awesome view . It's rustic but contemporary; airy in summer and cosy in winter. It’s 30 minutes north of Pemberton, and is a great base from which to explore Birkenhead Provincial Park, Gates and Anderson Lakes

The space
While the suite is in a new building, we've incorporated materials and features of an old barn that was on the site to give it lots of character. The suite is large, airy and barn-like, with lots of salvaged wood, and is finished to a high standard. It has large south facing doors that open onto a balcony with a wonderful view over farmland, trees and mountains. It has a wood stove for use in winter months.

Guest access
You'll have access to the entire suite, which is self-contained and quite private, with its own separate access. There is a small balcony and a separate great exterior deck with a screened dining area, barbecue snd a propane fire pit. You are also welcome to explore the rest of the 5 acre property, but please respect the privacy of our farming neighbours next door

Other things to note
The suite is above a home based bakery business, which is open 9am-2:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays from the end of May to the beginning of September. While this means you'll not be short of bread or a pie while you're here, bakeries sometimes run late and start early! We will make every effort to be as quiet as possible, but we start early on opening days. Thursday evening, Friday and Saturday morning are our busiest times. We also host community pizza nights on Saturday evenings once a month. You may hear us lighting the wood fired oven, but you may also get to wake up to the smell of fresh bread!
The suite has a full kitchen and we are happy to provide bread, homemade granola and local eggs (just let us know what you'd like when you contact us.)
Please note that in our area dogs are more or less essential to protect crops and livestock from deer, cougars and other predators. Both ourselves and our neighbours currently have dogs. We work hard to make sure they mind their manners, but if you are nervous of dogs please let us know when you book, so we can be sure to introduce you to them (and give you some treats to bribe them with....).
The farm next door has free range livestock and we are therefore unable to accommodate additional dogs.

Neighbourhood highlights

Birken is a great area as it is rural, but provides reasonably easy access to Pemberton (30 mins) and Whistler (50 mins). Its a good base for hikers, mountain-bikers (we can provide secure storage for your bikes) or those who just want to get away from the city and experience rural BC.
