Mountain view

Guests say the views are gorgeous.
Total privacy and solitude await you at this cabin with a beautiful mountain-top view of the James River. Immerse yourself in the sounds of wilderness and relax on one of two large decks or curl up inside on the cozy daybed!

The cabin is off-grid with solar power, usb for phone charging and seasonally dependent running water for outdoor sink and shower.

The space
This off-grid experience provides you with a peaceful place to get away! There is solar lighting and a fire pit located near the cabin for campfires!

We also maintain a clean out house next to the cabin for your use and there is a shower house available for all our guests to use near the farm store with hot water.

Pets are welcome! There is a pet fee so please let us know if you plan to bring your furry friends!

There is a king-size sleeper sofa downstairs and a full mattress on the daybed upstairs. The downstairs sleeper sofa has the views of the river and woods right from your bed! You can close off that downstairs section as well so it is private.

Enjoy the sunset on either the first or second level deck, before roasting s'mores around our fire pit underneath the star-filled Virginia sky!

We provide enough firewood for your first fire in the firepit! Guests are welcome to look for more firewood in the woods if you need additional firewood (please only use wood that is already on the ground).

There is a usb charging port above next to the daybed on the second floor. If you need outlets for computers etc, there are outlets at the shower house by the Farm Store.

Guest access
Altamont Farm is a 500 acre historic working farm. Surrounded by beautiful mountain and river views, this farm is home to a variety of animals including Highland cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, and horses! You are welcome to explore the farm (including more than 10 miles of trails and great fishing on the James River) and relax in this peaceful corner of nature.

We have a variety of animals on the farm and each has a unique diet. We ask guests to please not feed any of the animals without first checking with us as improper feeding (too much, wrong type, etc) can lead to health problems for the animals. Thank you!

Find us on IG (@altamontfarm) and FB (Altamont Farms) to see pictures and updates from the farm!

Produce, eggs, and meat are available for purchase at the farm store (selection depends on seasonal availability) and you can also purchase meals and order special meals/desserts from the farm store! If you would like more information about the farm store, please reach out to us!

Other things to note
The Farm is also an Airbnb Experience for Horseback riding (experience riders) and lessons (inexperienced). We have 5 trail horses and come by to see them or reach out if interested in scheduling time with them and our trainer.

* The cabin is outfitted with candle tea lights and solar lights for your use. We recommend guests bring flashlights/lanterns, sunscreen, bug spray and other off-grid camping essentials.

• We provide drinking water in containers inside the cabin for drinking water and to cook with. And there is also a shower house near the Farm Store (about 5 minutes by car from the cabin) that guests are welcome to use.

• In colder months (December-April), firewood for heating the wood burning stove is provided at no extra cost, ready for you at the cabin.

There is also a propane stove on the ground level sleeping area.

• Please note there is no hot water at this listing - a shower and sink with hot water are available in the shower house on the farm.
