Where you’ll be

Arroyo Grande, California, United States

This custom safari tent (canvas cabin) is nestled in a countryside filled with oaks, with views of the Los Padres National Forest and the Edna Valley vineyards; and just a short hike away from breathtaking views of the ocean from Avila Beach to the Guadalupe Dunes. There are limitless lookouts for sunrise, sunset, moonrise and star-gazing. We are also centrally located to anything you might desire! The San Luis Obispo Airport is less than 10 minutes away, so if you aren’t driving here in your own car, you could easily fly in, rent a car, taxi, or Uber your way to our glamp-site and the many tourist attractions. Or if you'd prefer, we can pick you up from the airport and shuttle you to Serenity! Escape the maddening crowds of the city, yet it is just a few minutes drive to cool and trendy shops in our small beach towns. We are close to many wineries, the popular pristine Central Coast beaches, whale watching, sailing adventures, riding dune buggies at the sand dunes, farmers markets, shopping and dining in downtown San Luis Obispo, which is known for being the happiest city in America, and is home to Cal Poly University. There is also the Lake Lopez Recreation Park, which offers fishing, swimming, zip-lining, and the Mustang Water Park. Our many beach towns also offer surfing, kayaking, horseback-riding, as well as many other recreational opportunities. And another must-see is the Monarch Butterfly Grove in Pismo Beach, where you'll see the Eucalyptus tree–filled grove with thousands of monarch butteries in late October through February. If you are willing to drive a little bit farther, the Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles is only 45 minutes away, and the grand Hearst Castle in San Simeon is only an hour north. Another fun day would be to enjoy the Danish village of Solvang...only 40 minutes south of us. The choices are endless!

Although Raul was born in New Jersey, and Diane was raised in Washington State, they have both been Californians for over 35 years, and have lived in the Central Coast for 20+ years! We met at Bills Place in the Village of Arroyo Grande in 1999, while line-dancing and singing Karaoke, and have been together ever since. We have a beautiful melded family of 4 daughters, 2 sons, and 9 grandchildren. We enjoy singing together, and have entertained at various events and weddings over the years. Raul is also known for his work as The Sandman, building amazing sandcastles for charity just north of the Pismo Beach pier most Saturdays from April thru Oct. (weather permitting). Perhaps your visit will land on one of those days, and you can come down and watch him build his creations! We look forward to sharing our beautiful site with you.

During your stay

Privacy & Housekeeping: We do not enter your tent or bathroom during your stay for any reason unless requested. Only in case of maintenance or emergency will we enter your room without your permission.

We are available 24/7 for our guests if they should need anything, but we try to give you total privacy...like staying at a Private Resort, but we are just a phone call away. We tell our guests to consider us The Front Desk/Concierge, and they can contact us any time--day or night--we will always be available to answer any questions or take care of anything they might need.

Your private bathroom with shower is located in the main house, only a 180 foot walk from your cabin, along a well-lit path, and is situated near the pool area. This bathroom is locked and blocked from the rest of the main house, giving guests total privacy. We provide towels, washcloths, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair dryer and a full-length mirror. (We DO ask that guests help us conserve water, and not take extended showers.) There is also a basic first-aid kit in the top bathroom drawer on the left side of the sink. (Please use the green or black house towels for bathing, and the assorted colored beach towels for the pool. These are all located in the first cabinet on the right as you enter the bathroom.)

There is private guest parking along the left side of the main house in the graveled area.

POISON OAK WARNING: If you decide to hike through our woods, please be on the lookout for poison oak. It has 3 leaves, mostly shiny and red…can be a small or grand sized bush. Don’t touch any plant that you are unsure about. Try to stay on clear paths and don’t brush up on plants if you can help it. We recommend that you wear closed-toed shoes while hiking. The plant poison is an oil, so if you get it on you, it will transfer to any surface you touch (like shoes to floor, etc.) A bit of advice: If it is not a fern or grass, chances are that it is poison oak.

NOTE: The blue mat just inside the tent entrance is a “tacky mat”. This captures dirt and dust from foot traffic, but does not leave any residual adhesive on your shoes.
