This beautiful Cottage was originally built in the 1920's by an enterprising young couple from Rochester NY, Eva and Chet Collins.
With a love for sailing, the vast wild spaces of Ontario and it's deep waterways the Collins set up Camp, literally! The young couple built a summer resort that spanned 3 generations, and involved a whole community, in it's operation. The Camp Watercombe log books record the proposals, honeymoons and family visits of it's returning guests for over 50 years. We love the Collin's pioneering spirit and intend to continue restoring the original bunkies located around the Camp Watercombe property. We hope you create some adventures of your own under these same towering trees and sandy shores.
This area is known for it's excellent Fishing and Sailing. Two swing moorings are available for sailboats. Clean, clear, deep water, incredible views and excellent fishing. 12 min boat ride to Picton (or Napanee) for impromptu breakfasts, exploring Breweries & Wineries, cafés, restaurants and incredible small-town independent shops.
The main cabin hosts a lakeside bedroom, overlooking the water on two sides with floor to ceiling windows and a walk out to the deck. Second and third bedrooms are located in separate sleeping cabins, each with their own covered porch. Great for couples looking for a little extra privacy on their holiday.
Large daybeds flank the Fieldstone Hearth making sure everyone has a great space to stretch out. 12 foot Harvest table easily seats 6 with options to eat inside or on the deck (both with lake views). Outdoor sofa for those who want to soak up the end of day sunsets from a cozy perch or swing from the comfort of the Fringed Hammock in the Screened Room instead.
Hope you love the new Butcher Block Counters, Coffee Station, and double Farmhouse Apron Sink overlooking the lake! We were inspired by the Danish design principles of warmth, simplicity and minimalism. Cozy up to the kitchen fireplace (one of three in the cottage) and unwind on the rocker. A dishwasher and European combo washer /dryer unit gives you more time to relax.
Tucked off the kitchen you will find a full bathroom with a Clawfoot Bathtub for post lake soaking by the fire, YES there's a fireplace in the bathroom!
Don't feel like cooking indoors, no problem. You've got your choice of Weber Gas and/or Charcoal Grills (plus a pizza oven) outside on the terrace and many great takeout options in town to choose from, or perhaps arrange for a private chef's meal with wine tasting, or Seafood Bake on the beach.
The water is provided by a well, 100% safe to drink but if you have a delicate constitution or concerns please bring bottled water.
Free onsite parking for up to 3 vehicles. We are 3hrs from Toronto, 1hr from Kingston, 3hrs from Ottawa and 3.5 from Montreal.
Please note this a RUSTIC 100yr+ COTTAGE within a healthy and natural Lake environment. Depending on the time of year you may experience pollen on the water, weeds in the water, waves if it’s windy, still water if it’s not windy, and best of all fish and birds and frogs and turtles, bugs and even the occasional otter or fox sharing the space as well. The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms are located in Bunkies and antique/vintage items are the norm not the exception! If you do choose to come and experience this awesome little corner of Ontario, just remember that the closer you get to nature, the closer it gets to you :) Please manage expectations accordingly.
While pet friendly, we are not able to accommodate puppies/dogs under a year old or cats (allergies).
