My stay in Louis' place was great! The house is clean and comfy, the neighbourhood is quiet, and enjoy your landlord's good sense of humour! The city centre is around 12mins by bus and the closest shopping centre is 20mins walking. Galway bay and silver strand beach can also be reached in less than one hour on foot. Several choices of breakfast is offered every morning and Louis would nicely ask if there's anything else you need. Thank you again! I would probably come back in the summertime when the days are longer and the weather is nicer!

My stay has been very good. The room is very cosy and warm, the house itself is nice and warm, even with the storm outside. Breakfast offers plenty of choice and it is left out every morning for the guests. Louis and his son are very friendly and helpful.

Louis lives with his son and his son's girlfriend in the suburbs of Galway. His home is about 3 miles from the city center, which is accessible via the 411 bus (€2.10 cash or €2.00 Leap Card; the ride takes about 25-30 minutes depending on traffic and the number of stops the bus makes to get to Eyre Square, which is the center of town). If he's free, he will pick you up on your arrival, which makes that first night in town a bit easier and gives you a few moments to get to know Louis and his quirky sense of humor (and a bit of a lay of the land). Be advised, however: the buses don't run very late--(I think 11:15 pm is the last bus M-F, 9:15 pm Saturday and 7:15 pm Sunday, so factor in cab costs (€10-€13 from Eyre Square) when considering staying here if you want to have more than a couple of pints! As for his neighborhood, there isn't a whole lot near him. It's mostly residential and even has some nearby cows up the street (but I don't recommend walking to them as there is no sidewalk on that route). The nearest grocery store is about a mile away, so prepare for that and buy your goods when in town. That said, Louis does leave out breakfast food for you (cereal, eggs, bread, jam), so at least you can fill up in the morning. That said, don't forget to ask permission to use the kitchen to cook dinner (or to use the washer) and, if the door is closed, it likely means it's family dinner time, so it's best to give them their time and space without interruption. The room I stayed in was clean, the bed comfortable, and the neighborhood cat hopping up on my windowsill absolutely adorable. And, they have a cleaning lady for the common areas every Friday (but if you arrive on a Thursday, don't expect perfection!) And, if you like your privacy, rest assured you will have it, as the family members do not interact that much, though if you run into Louis, he will be up for a short conversation and give you a bit more of his humor and views of the world. However, if you want complete quiet, note what other reviewers have said--the walls are thin, so you may not always have it. Also, there's a tv in the kitchen if you wish to watch. Overall, I had a good stay. I didn't mind the distance, but factoring in the cab ride home a few times, I think I may venture to stay closer to the city center next time around.

Response from Louis:
I have stayed in various BnB around the world. I have NEVER eaten with the family and I would never be so ignorant to cook while they are having their evening meal If my reviews are accurate you might ask yourself why I did not interact with you. ONE review mentioned the walls. I hope you are aware that 3 fried eggs daily are not recommended. I have only once before had to tell a guest that in Ireland it is extremelyill mannered to cook while the family are having their evening meal. This is normal in hostels, where everyone looks after themselves in a common cooking area. It is not a rule - just common manners. You will note that YOU are the only one who has complained about this. It is not normal to refrigerate eggs and jam in (URL HIDDEN) is a normal courtesy to ask to use the washing machine to ensure that laundry is done in a managed way as there are 5 people in the house. You might read all the previous reviews and look in a mirror. Eating eggs 10 days out of date is dangerous and if anyone did so they are stupid

I spent a nice time for 6 weeks at Louis's place. It is clean and very quiet. Louis and his family are very welcoming and always ready to help. The breakfast is very complete and I could use the kitchen to cook my own meal. I splept very weel and I had a beautiful view through my room's window. There is a bus station near the house but to enjoy in the city centre during the late evening especially for the weekend I had to take a taxi to come back. So I recommend this place to spend some time in Galway city.

I am a retired bank manager. I live with my son and his GF. We keep mainly students during the academic year. We are flexible and will be happy to have students with continental breakfast at a suitable rate. I have travelled quite a bit. I was in Quito Ecuador twice. I worked as a volunteer with Children International there teaching English to disadvantaged children. I also spent a year in Melbourne with my son.
