Want to get off the beaten path and enjoy the beauty and solitude of the Upper Peninsula? Located on quiet Baldy Lake in the midst of the Hiawatha National Forest, you will not be disappointed. Our cabin has all there is to offer in any season: fishing, swimming, kayaking, off-roading on ATVs or snowmobiles, ice fishing, and admiring the grandeur of lake-living out your back door.

The space
Our cabin has recently been renovated from top to bottom. Our new solar power runs all the appliances on the premises. The solar system is easy to use - just switch on the light switches like at home. There ARE limits with a solar-powered system for certain items. Anything that has a heating element is unavailable for use. This includes crock pots, Instapots, curling irons, hair dryers, Keurig or other electric coffee pots . Those items are not allowed. Not to worry, though! Brew your coffee quickly with our percolator coffee pot on our modern propane range/oven.The cabin is well-stocked with everything you need to make your stay as cozy as home. You won't even miss any of those appliances. Our Welcome Book at the cabin includes all instructions related to the solar. If you have further questions, please contact us. We would love to discuss this alternative energy that makes our off-the-grid cabin feel just like home!

While we brag about our rustic simplicity, you still have a modern bathroom with a hot shower after a long day of snowmobiling or rinsing off after sunbathing on the lake shore. We have a 9.6 cubic foot fridge with ample space for your family's foods and beverages. We also have a propane grill for cooking. A starter pack of paper products and soaps are provided for your convenience.

Our cabin has ample cooking space along with an island for hanging out with friends and a there is a huge table for meals and playing cards. Challenge your family to a foosball tournament on our vintage foosball table. There are plenty of lawn chairs available for sitting around our fire pit and listening to the lake sounds.

The sauna is fully functional and well-stocked with fresh cut cedar and birch.

We have a spiral staircase linking the upstairs sleeping and living area to our downstairs kitchen. We recommend comfy sneakers or slippers to wear around the kitchen area. Guests can also relax on the upper deck overlooking the lake. There are stairs directly from the deck to the lake as well as access around the cabin to throw in your fishing line or cool off on a hot day.

The cabin sleeps 6 and possibly up to 8. There is one bedroom with a queen size bed, a set of twin bunk beds in an alcove, and 2 pull out sofas with full size mattresses in the main living area. We have brand new pillows and memory foam mattresses on the pull-outs to make our guests extra comfortable. There is no TV to distract you from the beauty of your surroundings.

Guest access
Guests have access to kayaks, paddles, and life jackets. The Baldy Lake snowmobile trail links to the main road and there are multiple ORV trails all around with access from the driveway. Drop your fishing line into the water from our dock and start hauling in your catch.

Other things to note
This is a quiet lake with most cabins being family-owned for generations. While we want families and friends to enjoy their stay at our cabin, we ask that people are respectful to our neighbors. The beauty of Baldy Lake is the solitude; loud music, fireworks, and parties are prohibited.

We like dogs, but ask that you leave your pets at home. Exceptions can be made, for a fee, so contact us if it is necessary for your furry friend to be your travel companion.

Location

Munising Township, Michigan, United States

Our cabin is part of Wetmore, MI in Alger County and surrounded by the Hiawatha National Forest. It is only 2 miles off Highway 13 and only 12 miles south of Wetmore, MI. Just west of Wetmore is the town of Munising, which offers tours or hiking at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, fishing excursions, and a variety of other great outdoor activities. Just 3 miles away is the local grocery store which is well-stocked with items you might need. In the summer, the nearby trails have an abundance of raspberry and blueberry bushes and wildlife. Our location and driving time is about 2 hours west of the Mackinac Bridge, 60 minutes east of Marquette, and about 75 minutes northeast of Escanaba.

The cabin is located about 2 miles west off Highway 13. Highway 13 connects Munising in Alger Co. from the north to US 2 in the south in Delta County. Highway 13 is a paved road. The road to the cabin is a forest road, which is a mix of sand and gravel and does get somewhat muddy after rainstorms. It is plowed in the winter, however there is limited turn-around space during the winter months. Please contact us with specifics about turn around radius for snowmobile or ORV trailers. The average-sized truck and trailer will have plenty of room to park in the driveway and there are numerous turn outs should you encounter another vehicle. The road is shared with mixed traffic -- ORVs in the spring, summer, and fall and snowmobiles in the winter.

Our family loves the outdoors and all Upper Michigan has to offer. We spend a lot of time snowmobiling, snowshoeing, riding ATVs, kayaking, camping, fishing, and hunting.
During your stay
Cell phone service in the area is sketchy. That's part of the beauty of the U.P. - unplug and unwind! The cabin has a landline that can call anywhere in the U.P. Feel free to call us if you have any issues during your stay. We want you to have a great experience at our cabin.
