CASITA VISTA ~ The Heart of the SouthWest ~ is located in the Casita Vista Neighborhood District, incorporated into the Los Volcanes Subdivison at the southernmost boundry of North West Albuquerque. Known as "The West Side" among Burquenos.

Rising up over 400 ft. above the Rio Grande Valley floodplain where the City Center is located, to an elevation of 5,308ft., is the West Mesa. Casita Vista Neighborhood District is situated on the Mesa's most prominent eastern escarpment.

The Panoramic views from the Casita Vista Neighborhood are unlike any other in the City. Overlooking the entire city, Downtown, Old Town, and the Rio Grande from the edge of West Mesa.

The main vantage point is from the top of the Pat Hurley Park. The park is regularly chosen for Wedding, Class, Department, and Group Photos. It is a short walk to the Park (0.3 miles) from the Casita. With a community center, public use exercise equipment, a few regulation sized basketball courts and playgrounds for children.

The Esperanza "Faith" Community Bike Education Center is nearby the Casita (0.1 miles). The Center offers training in bicycle maintenance, necessary tools & supplies such as tires, tubes, brakes etc. for bicyclists free of charge. Participants of the Center's quarterly Bicycle Education class each recieve a new bike that is best suited for their individual needs and body types.

The "Mother Road" Historic US Route 66, (designated Central Avenue in Albuquerque) borders the Casita Vista Neighborhood. Many iconic and landmark restaurants are found along this stretch of Route 66, including over a dozen Street Food Vendors /Taco Trucks serving Traditional Mexican and Authentic New Mexican cuisine.

Outstanding dinning choices include World Famous Golden Pride Chicken & Ribs (0.2 miles), Mac's La Sierra Coffee Shop, The Western View Coffee Shop, The Monte Carlo Steakhouse, and Sharky's Fish and Shrimp Tacos...all of these right along Historic Route 66 within less than a mile radius of CASITA VISTA.

Albuquerque has been consistently rated among the Top Ten Best Cities in the United States for foodies. Travel & Leisure Magazine ranked the City #6 for Best Food and Eats in the Nation.

There are several markets within 1-2 miles of Casita Vista such as Albertsons Market, Smith's Food & Drug, and Lowe's Corner Market (Organic products and Specialty & New Mexico State Wines, Spirits and Brew selections) as well as International Grocers specializing in fresh Meats and South-Central-Carrib American foods; El Super, La Especial Carniceria (Specialty Butchers), Nelson's Family Meats, and El Mezquite. All of these have their own Taqueria (Taco Maker) Tortilleria (Tortilla Maker) and Panaderia (Bakery). For other necessities it is only a 2 minute walk to the Family Dollar Store from the Casita.

Traditional American Dinning Fare like Applebee's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Cracker Barrel, Golden Corral and Denny's are also nearby. Including many fast food brands like Churches Chicken, KFC, Carl's Jr., Panda Express, Twisters and Whataburger. GrubHub, DoorDash, and InstaCart users will find the delivery selection of Casita Vista extensive, with reasonable rates and short delivery times.

Further East along Historic Route 66 more savory cuisine choices can be found in Old Town, Downtown, Nob Hill and the International District. Visitors of Albuquerque must sample the flavor of these City Favorites; El Pinto Mexican Restaurant, Laguna Burger, and the Frontier Restaurant.

Casita Vista Neighborhood and it's surrounding neighborhoods are built upon the site of the Western Air Express Airport (West Mesa Airport) one of Albuquerque's original Airports before the International Sunport was constructed. The old Airport served TWA & Continental and once dominated the Mesa Plateau surrounded by Desert. Parts of one original runway and the foundation of the main hangar can still be found.

During the late 50s-60s a boom of vacationing tourists traveling to Los Angeles along Route 66 led to the old Airport being developed into residential neighborhoods, including Casita Vista. Completion of Interstate 40 in the 70s saw the end of major developments on the West Side at Route 66.

The City's sprawl is limited on 3 sides by the Sandia mountains and Native Pueblo Lands. Albuquerque continues to expand westward on the Mesa with recent developments primarily in Rio Rancho and the South Valley. The Petroglyphs National Monument encompasses the largest portion of West Mesa.

Opposite the Casita Vista neighborhood across the Rio Grande river is Historic Old Town Albuquerque, The Bio Park, the City Zoo, various parks, museums and Downtown Albuquerque. All accessible along Historic Route 66.
