Set in the idyllic Himalayan countryside, Santila is an exclusive small homestay for a couple or a family of 4 (or less), who yearn for a vacation in a quiet, homely and joy-filled hillside cottage, tucked away amongst the pine-filled forests of Kasauli. Positioned along a kaccha village road, the cottage is blessed with a natural tranquility that is peaceful and revitalizing.

The space
Our home suite is available to only one couple/family of four, at a time. This is so as to ensure an authentic, private and exclusive experience; thereby removing potentially nasty, noisy or inquisitive neighbours from the equation.

Our cottage is a simple home, and 'not a hotel'. Santila is for the wanderers whose souls ache for peace and solitude. It is for those who have lost themselves in the inflexibilities of daily life. Most importantly it is for those who wish to reclaim, reframe and reinvent themselves, amongst the aromatic, cool and pine scented breeze that forever surrounds the cottage. Santila is for those who covet the reinvention and rejuvenation of their body, mind and soul.

Expect a no-fuss service, no polished brass fittings, no Michelin star chefs, and definitely no Jacuzzis’. Ours is an eco-conscious and happy home with a simple yet contemporary Anglo-Himachali design.

Santila - literally translates into 'the saga of being satisfied with what one has'

We are a home in the truest of senses. You will feel the comfort of home, in the care of our family, our consummate cook and our ever-helpful housekeeper.
By personally taking care of each reservation, we ensure that your experience is inimitable, and your stay is spot-on, simple, safe and secluded.

Guest access
On the inside (Private Guest Space)
A cheerful living room with a day bed, a curate collection of books and magazines, select board games and satellite television, in case the nights get a little too peaceful for you. The day room also has an attached powder room. The day bed doubles up as an extra bedroom for a fa by night, for a family.

The adjacent kitchenette is equipped with some basics.
The master bedroom includes an ensuite cloakroom and bathroom
The homestay is easily accessible and is located at ground level

On the outside
The entry to the homestay is surrounded by pine trees and the bedroom opens onto a small sun-kissed lawn. The oxygen rich, pine scented fresh air will repair, heal and refresh you. The perfect setting for some morning callisthenics or yoga. Explore the area around on foot; it is peaceful, safe and there’s adventure to be had, around every corner. The spots around the countryside, is an ideal setting for some reading, although the surroundings can be satisfyingly distracting. Enjoy the chilled (figuratively and literally) evenings with your favourite tipple. Don’t be too surprised if the countryside lulls you to sleep.

Other things to note
- We do serve breakfast (at respectable hours). Breakfast is served at 0900-1000 hours. Of course there is a heating facility in your kitchenette and you can heat your meals should you be eating later.
- Lunch - We do not offer cooked lunch from the main kitchen of the house.
- Dinner - Dinner is available on advance notice (please let us know in the day itself, if you wish to have dinner). Meals are both - Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian, organic, wholesome and fresh. The menu is set as per the freshest of ingredients available and is priced at INR 450 per person (Vegetarian or Non Vegetarian with Dessert).
-Self service styled lunch making - its quite simple - to make in your kitchenette a light sandwich, soup and a fresh salad. Our recommendation is to pack it up and carry it up the hill and have your own small little picnic up in the pines.
The kitchenette has
- a well stocked tea and coffee setup
- crockery and cutlery
- a functional induction stove with cookware.
- A fridge
- A sink and purified water.
The kitchen can be stocked up by our staff on 24 hours advance notice (costs as per bills + a delivery charge of INR 200) with
- Fresh local veggies and fruits
- Groceries
- Milk and beverages
- Sodas and juices.
- Sauces and Spices
- Cooking Oil
PLEASE NOTE - For long stays, we can organise a private cook. Contact us for more info on this.
Basic needs are also available at our version of Amazon called – Kaka-zon. Kaka’s shop about 5 minutes walking distance, has all that you would need to shop in such a place.

We have limited power backup upto a few hours. Generally, hill stations do not have power failures and even if there is no electricity, you won’t miss it.

We encourage digital detox and minimal usage of electronics.

Location

Kasauli, HP, India

Santila is located on a 2-kilometer adventurous rugged village road accessible by a car with good tyres (preferably SUV) in the midst of a pine forest. There are two villages in the vicinity and a natural spring nearby.

Positioned along a village road traversed by vehicles with only ‘good wheels,’ the cottage is blessed with a natural tranquility that is peaceful and revitalizing. We are located satisfyingly away from the main town and bazaar, so that our guests can enjoy a “do nothing and get lost in nature” sort of holiday, in the immersive lower Himalayas.

Once a Colonial Hill town, Kasauli was a quintessential retreat for the British, as well as the prosperous locals, and royal families of British India. Kasauli today is cantonment town, and plays host to travellers (of every disposition, and budget) from India and across the world.

You too can do nothing by just doing nothing at all. It’s best not to plan your days when your here. Let them just flow. Hikes are very much a part of the art of doing nothing, as wandering about connects you to nature and there is something about this that is not only exhilarating but also touches your heart at some level.

Hikes - we have numerous trails to trek around with various levels; some being easy, others difficult. You can embark on full-day hikes or just short walks to vantage points that have brilliant views. A lovely 30 minute climb from Santila takes you to 'Santila's High Point' - a lovely spot in the midst of the countryside with a birds eye view of the setting around and to embrace a glorious sunset. An hour-long hike above Santila brings you to the main town of Kasauli. An hour-long hike all the way down takes you to the village stream.
