Great check-in experience
100% of recent guests gave the check-in process a 5-star rating.
From the moment you arrive at this sunny yellow bungalow with its beautiful flowers and inviting front porch, you’ll feel right at home.

During your stay, you’ll especially love that you are in a completely fresh, newly renovated home that you have all to yourself, and that you are just one short block from the little red caboose on the Elroy Sparta bike trail in Wilton, the heart of the bike trail.

The space
You’ll park in the private paved driveway and walk a short sidewalk through a lovely garden to the covered entry porch. Enter the main living area and you’ll immediately notice a fresh, open plan living space filled with country charm. From the vaulted ceiling in the living room to the warm maple floors, from the reclaimed barn beams to the galvanized steel backsplash in the kitchen, and the spiral staircase with cherry wood steps to the bead board wainscoting, you’ll take in the bungalow’s unique warmth the moment you step in the door. Past the flat screen TV and through the French doors, you’ll step into a huge front porch with a pair of comfy rocking chairs, a vintage ice cream parlor table and chairs, and a porch swing so relaxing you may not want to go back inside!

You’ll enjoy making meals in the fully equipped kitchen with its gas stove, new countertop and sink, microwave and antique iron table and chairs. Outside the kitchen door is a back porch with a large pine table and benches, surrounded by whitewashed shiplap and country touches like a barn door slider hiding a storage closet.

Sink into bed after a day of bicycling, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, fishing, horseback riding or just sightseeing in the beautiful hills of the driftless region. You’ll have your choice of a queen size bed up the spiral staircase in the loft, or the spoon-carved full size bed in the first floor bedroom. There is also a single daybed on the first floor if extra sleeping space is needed.

You’ll feel refreshed in the compact bathroom with its sparkling subway tiles and mosaic floor. A good soak in the tub or a refreshing shower will be your choice. The downy soft towels in a variety of colors will allow everyone in your party to pick a color and know whose towel is whose.

Enjoy the convenience of a full size washer and dryer in the basement laundry room. In addition to laundry essentials, you’ll also find a full size ironing board and steam iron.

Enter the backyard patio through the door in the back porch, where you’ll find a patio table with an umbrella and four chairs. From that vantage point, you can enjoy the spacious lawn and views of the fields and hills leading to spectacular sunsets. The attached garage is available to store your bikes during your stay, but it is also home to a cornhole game you can wheel out to the lawn for a friendly competition.

Guest access
Several outlets in the kitchen and loft have USB charging ports for your convenience. Feel free to enjoy Netflix on the flat screen TV.

Other things to note
You should know that although the loft bedroom is spacious, the ceiling height is varied. At its peak, headroom is well over 7 feet, but the closer you get to the walls, there is less headroom, so keep that in mind. Also, this is farm country with lots of cows, so you may occasionally detect the fragrance of our four-legged neighbors.

Location

Wilton, Wisconsin, United States

Wilton is a beautiful little town in the scenic Kickapoo Valley. The quaint community offers a library, swimming pool, and a park with sand volleyball, basketball courts, baseball diamond and a pancake breakfast in a covered park pavilion every Sunday Memorial Day through Labor Day. A restaurant, vintage grocery store, jeweler specializing in handmade jewelry, and an old-timey hardware store (where you can purchase your bike trail pass) add to the town’s charm. Tomah, Fort McCoy and Sparta are just a short drive away, and they offer a variety of shops, restaurants and activities. Burkabee’s Bungalow makes a prefect home base for day trips to Wisconsin Dells, Baraboo, La Crosse, UWL, the Warrens Cranberry Festival (Cranfest) or the many small towns and seasonal festivals throughout the region.

I have spent my professional career in Information Technology management, but I grew up on a quarter horse farm called Burkabee Ranch, and was born into a love for animals and the outdoors. I especially love the driftless region of Wisconsin with its hills, valleys and incomparable scenery. In my spare time, I enjoy renovating, discovering used items that can be repurposed, bicycling, sewing and painting. My husband, Tom, is a retired carpenter who loves turkey and deer hunting, working outside and spending time with family, friends and neighbors. We both love this region of the country and making new friends!
