About this listing

The enchanting Cisterna's room draws water to every detail, at the entrance to an old tank in 1571, to enjoy a warm bath in a 1907 marble bathtub, sleeping in a bed supported by two iron propellers.

The space

Casa Faranda is a place of peace and silence in an ancient residence, composed of two bodies of 1571 and 1649 in Castroreale, a hillside village between Capo di Milazzo and the Gulf of Patti in front of the Aeolian Islands.

The charming Cisterna room is one of the three Casa Faranda rooms, the room features water in every detail, inside: a double bed supported by two iron propellers, a 1907 marble whitewashed bath in a An exciting blue wall over the sea, colored with natural pigments, two polished shades of bees, a wall covered by early 1900's in which there are embellished paintings and mirrors, a natural resin floor, a sink made of an old basin supported by Iron streaks, antiques and old tugboat lamps, the room has a shower room and overlooks the quiet lanes of the village.

Every detail is taken care of to accommodate the visitor in an outdated environment where an old iron bowl, used for laundry, becomes a bath or kitchen sink or a damper for aquarium wine with papyrus and red fish.

Pier and Giorgia are wonderful hosts. This is the ancestral home of Pier's family, dating back to the 1500s. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly, filled with music, and creativity. Pier and Giorgia also shared a delicious traditional Sicilian dinner with me and Pier helped me with some business in town, which was very great. Castroreale itself is picturesque medieval village and is much cooler in the summer than the coastal towns. A nice, tranquil place to visit with panoramic views and stunning architecture that has managed to keep its authentic character.

Castroreale is a village from the middleage that enjoys a fantastic view on the mountains and the eolian islands. In this context the ancient house of Pierfrancesco keeps a timeless charm, which has been long lost in our dayly lives. Additionally the artistic nature of the couple reflects in the bed and breakfast where you can find paintings and old objects wich have bern given a new life, so for instance copper or clay pipes have been transformed into lamps. So a great experience both the place and tha b&b.

We had a wonderful time at Pierfrancescos and Georgias house. The whole place is absolutely magical. Castroreale is worth a visit, has spectacular views and is off the beaten path. The house has a lot of history and the interior design was exceptional - with limitless attention to detail. In reality it is even more beautiful than the pictures suggest. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and guided through the house. Pierfrancesco is a very talented musician and very interesting to talk to. We would have loved to spend more time here and will definitely return. We can suggest this AirBnB to everybody. We have used AirBnB quite a lot and this was the most unique and most beautiful and comfortable place we stayed in! It was an experience we will never forget. Grazie mille per tutto, Pierfrancesco.

We only had a short stay of 2 days, but we can underline all the positive comments. It's a beautifully restored house with nice modern twists. Pierfrancesco can tell you all about the house, the town, the history and the surrounding Sicily. He is passionate and has good tips for your stay even when it's short. A magnificent place.

Our time in Pierfrancesco's home has been the best airBnb experience yet! The space is so unique and special, each room tastefully designed and decorated with a certain theme. Clean, tidy and very comfortable. Pierfrancesco is a passionate and accommodating host, he had great recommendations for the surrounding area and region, very kind and accommodating. The village is everything you want for an authentic Sicilian experience! Highly recommended and hope to return.

Fantastic!! After busy months this was the best place for us to stay and re-energize again. The rooms were even more beautiful than on the pictures. You can feel the love that has been given to the renovation of the house. As much it is esthetically outstanding it is practical as well, which made the stay really comfortable. YES even the bathtub was working. The hosts Pierfrancesco, Giorgia and their daughter Mataida are truly beautiful, passionated, and authenic persons. They have such a big heart and made us feel really welcome. Staying with them for 13 days allowed us to get to know eachother a bit better. Furthermore we were pleased to have diner together several times, meeting also other familiy members. This gave us a little insight in the Sicilian family life. It was also great to have the possibility to take music classes from Pierfrancesco. He is a remarkable musician and teacher, and capable to share his passion in such a clear and inspiring way. Castroreale is a really special village, we directly felt at ease. All people are so friendly and the view over the valley and the see is just stunning, everywhere you look. Furthermore there is enough to explore in the surroudings. Pierfrancesco and Giorgia gave us recommendations about beaches and places to visit, one by one great. We also spend a day in Taormina and on Vulcano, both really nice to visit as well. To conclude: We had an amazing stay, so if you have the chance to visit Casa Faranda do so!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Pierfrancesco, Giorgia and Mataida thank you so much for your hospitality. We really hope to stay in touch and to see you again. You are more than welcome in Norway/the Netherlands as well. Warm wishes, Vincent & Melanie
