This house is comfortable & cosy, Gortnaboul is a quiet, peaceful countryside with beautiful views & time spent here is a switch off & a total reset.

The space
Gortnaboul Farmhouse is ideally located in the peaceful countryside with beautiful views to the Caha Mountains. For walkers it is a treat to walk the hour's walk to Kenmare town along part of the 'kerry way' route. Alternatively it's a short five minute drive.

Kenmare is a heritage town on the 'Ring of Kerry'. It has a lot of great and award winning restaurants, Deli's and Cafes and some great traditional pubs with nightly entertainment. On Wednesdays there is great food and craft market in the town square with local artisan food makers selling their produce. There are some really lovely shops and boutiques and lovely walkways along the bay and to the pier.

Our farmhouse cottage is the perfect tranquil spot for anyone hoping for a week of quiet countryside, beautiful flora and fauna unspoilt, undisturbed and the best of fresh air.

The house is tastefully restored and refurbished in a traditional country style retaining much of it's original features as possible. Kitchen/ dining room has large wood burning stove with original stone fireplace. Living room has an open fireplace also with optional plug in electric fire. Bathroom has full bath with electric shower and w.c. Upstairs has three double bedrooms. It has well maintained front and rear gardens with outdoor garden furniture. Suitable house and safe surroundings for children.

The house is unique as it is the grand old age of 110 years. It was the family home for generations of the Courteney's and holds lovely memories for family members who stay when they come home to visit. It continues to welcome visitors from all countries and everyone who stays loves the house and the location. It is a 30 minute drive to Killarney from the house via the scenic mountain route of Molls Gap. It is an hour to the beautiful beaches of Caherdaniel or Allihies on the Beara Penninsula. As Kenmare sits in the middle, it makes it the ideal base for sight seeing the Southwest and West Cork.

Please note Elec and heating oil costs are additional on departure depending on usage.

Guest access
guests can access all areas in the house & the surrounding countryside.

Other things to note
Aldi , Lidl & Supervalu will meet all your grocery requirements. Open until 9pm & there is a Centra store on Killarney Road that stays open until 11pm.
There is a Wednesday Market in town on the Square that sell a lot of great local produce. In this area you will also find the Tourist Office. There is a very nice wine shop called, Eugenes on Henry Street & further up a beautiful French Patisserie next to the Post Office.
Pub grub is great value in Ireland and most pubs serve a very good lunch & evening menu. The Coachmans & Davitts are lovely options in Kenmare. Quinlans is a lovely addition to our town on the top of main street for great Fish & chips. Pyro do wonderful pizzas for eat in or take away. For the more upmarket restaurants, Mulcahy’s, Creans & The boat house at dromquinna manor are recommended. It is advisable to reserve those restaurants as they get very busy.
The Carnegie Arts Theatre located behind the public library, present local theatre & music concerts & art exhibitions. It is a lovely entertainment option & their programme of events is displayed outside and booking necessary for some events. The Lansdowne Hotel also provide lovely Irish entertainment in their bar & a visit to Kenmare is not complete without visiting Crowleys Pub for the best Guinness & great music sessions.
If you wish to rent bikes & cycle some of the beautiful scenic routes, Pedals & Boots located in Lauragh will provide great bikes & also have a georgous cafe & lunch stop.
Should you require a Doctor or Pharmacy during your stay, you will find them in the Kenmare Shopping Centre where supervalu is located. Medical centre is located upstairs. The emergency services number is 999 or 112. Pauline’s mobile number is 0872815539 & Denis’s number is 0877977109.
Please note the blue bin at the side of the house is for recyclables, tin glass & plastics. Please wash or rinse before placing in the bin. Keep any paper or cardboard for recycling in the house so it dosen’t get wet. The black bin outside is for main rubbish bags.
The red switch outside the bathroom door must be turned on to operate the electric shower. The switch near the cooker area must be turned on to the operate the oil heating. The heating also heats the water when it it’s on. For additional hot water, there is an immersion upstairs in the hot press. Switch is to the left and down low. Just turn on switch neareast to you. Leave door open to remind yourself to turn it off. (It’s a bad fright to realise while you are on the ring of kerry drive that you have left the immersion on !!!!!). The water is perfect to drink from the kitchen tap, it is fresh water coming from our own well & not chlorinated.
Please don’t light the fire place in the living room as the chimney is blocked.
There are some stray cats & kittens in the area and as cute as they are, we ask you not to feed them as they cause problems when they start to hang around the house. (This info is also printed & in the house)
Wishing you a great stay !

Hi I'm Pauline. I am listing our cosy traditional farmhouse cottage in beautiful Kenmare, overlooking the Caha Mountains. It is the family home of my mother in law and her parents and is over 110 years old. After refurbishing it completely, we have been renting it for nearly 12 years now from April to Oct and it is loved by all who stay. Having people stay means we can keep the house alive and keep it maintained annually. We can honestly say we have never had a bad experience with anyone in the years of renting it which is cool! Have met some great families over the years who have stayed. On arrival we lite the fire, throw a bottle of wine in the fridge and give you all the good tips to enjoy a great week in the area.
