Ecclectic, spacious home in historic Hyde Park neighborhood. 3 blocks from great amenities: 4 restaurants, raw food/juice bar, bakery, park/golf course, cheese shop, gelato/wine bar. Quiet & in the heart of Austin. Easy access by bus/bike to fests.

The space

Located on large corner lot with fully fenced, xeriscaped back yard. House dates from 1920's (that's old for Texas). Lots of windows and light. Semi-open floor plan feels spacious but also many comfy corners for hanging out or working. Two living areas, big kitchen with table and seating area. Two bedrooms and a bath upstairs - master bedroom with queen bed and second bedroom with full bed. A bedroom with queen bed and two full baths downstairs. The fourth full bedroom is a lovely cottage with a queen bed called "The Hermitage" in the back yard. The Hermitage has extra amenities (TV with Netflix, small sitting area, lots of storage) since we use it for family, friends and B&B guests. One living area has queen sized sofa bed with extra comfort topper and a chair that folds out to a twin sized bed. We also have three canvas camp cots and sleeping bags, good for children.

Guest access

Home is equipped with screen and projector set up for DVD's or streaming. Hi speed wireless internet. We have a washing machine but are committed line/rack dryers. Laundromat two blocks away if needed. Similarly no dishwasher. Home is solar powered. Kid friendly - trampoline, zip line (down low and low speed, for littler kids), pogo swing and large front yard great for frisbee, football, soccer . . . etc.

Interaction with guests

In general we will be around for check in and check out, accessible by phone and nearby if needed. We are experienced landlords and have hosted many, many guests over the years. Hospitality is part of our general life practice.

Other things to note

Please note that we have two cats who come with the house. One is quite aloof and one is a bit of a love hound. Also please note that we try to integrate "green" habits into our lifestyle and do not have a dishwasher or a clothes dryer (just plenty of clothesline and folding racks).

This place is absolutely amazing! It's spacious and beautiful and exactly the kind of house I wished I owned if I lived in Austin. It easily sleeps eight and we couldn't have asked for more. Sarah was an awesome host that took time to show us everything about her wonderful house. Really, this place is an absolute winner!

Sarah's house was extraordinary. We had a large group in town for a graduation. The house fit the bill. The dining room, with its natural light and large table, were perfect for a family gathering. The kitchen was large and charming. The entire home had a cozy, almost bucolic feel (complete with chickens in the backyard). The perfect way to experience Austin. Thanks, Sarah!

Two colleagues and I rented the house for SXSW Interactive and it was perfect! The neighborhood was pleasant and quiet, with a couple of restaurants, a bakery, and a grocery store a couple blocks away. The house was roomy, sunny, and pretty much as it is described in the listing. Sarah was a great host, personable, and very responsive. The place was spotless when we arrived and she left us chips and local salsa along with some staples so we didn't have to shop from scratch to make meals. The wireless was good, the projector TV was neat, and the kitchen had all the cooking stuff/appliances we needed. The house is located roughly 3 miles north of downtown. I biked to SXSW every day -- it was an easy downhill through neighborhoods and the UT campus. I look forward to SXSW next year and hope I can rent Sarah's place again.

Sarah was very welcoming and an extremely gracious host. Sarah was easy to reach with questions and left us plenty of detailed information about the house. We made use of the kitchen, cookware, and dishes to make and serve a family meal. We were so glad to find an affordable, warm, and inviting place for our large family to spend a holiday together. It was a beautiful home. Highly recommended, especially for animal lovers.

The home was lovely and the neighborhood beautiful-as well as close to my son's home. We really had the opportunity to live Austin. The neighbors were kind and helpful. The host obviously had wonderful and loyal friends which says a lot! Sarah was very responsive to any questions or concerns. She had helpful information, tips, and instructions everywhere which was extremely helpful and made the experience positive. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would recommend prospective guests to book this home.

The house was fantastic - extremely well organized, clean, and pleasant to be in. Sarah was also great helping us get everything arranged before our stay. I would definitely stay here again.

The Hyde Park home was better than advertised, perfect neighborhood and location for my family, who were in town from a variety of locations for a wedding. Very homey with a ton of Austin-ish character, not surprising since Sarah is an artist, lots of comfortable space, not just for sleeping but for hanging out and relaxing. We actually had room to do some of the last minute wedding prep (flowers, dinner menus for the reception, ect) at the extra large dining room table. The magnetic board with all the phone #'s, instructions ect was a huge help, as were the cute little tags on individual items around the house. Great upstairs deck off the master bedroom, for bird watching, and comfy porch swing on front porch. We all would have been happy to stay the whole summer for sure!

I am an artisan working with reclaimed textiles and my husband, Chris, teaches special ed. We have a twelve year old son into sports and Magic the Gathering. We love living where we can walk, bike or bus to most anything. We are active, community minded people with a history of welcoming many diverse people into our home. We appreciate old things with soul and arts and crafts. We have chickens, subscribe to a CSA, shop at the coop, collect rain water, line dry our clothes, hand dry our dishes and power our home with solar panels! Hopefully all those details give you an idea what kind of people we are. Whether you are coming to visit family, attend a wedding or hear some great music, we look forward to hosting you and helping you experience Austin.
