Built around 1850, the house has been in my husband's family since. We only started to share it last year and have had great reviews and enjoyed having guests. The house sits above a rocky bay with views of Loch Shielavaig and Hecla. We hope you love it as much as we do.
The area is ideal for anyone with a love of peace and quiet and outdoor pursuits. Walking, fishing, bird watching, photography or just escaping from the city. Fishing licences can be obtained locally. See "things to note"

The space
The house is cosy and comfortable, even on wild days.
In the living room there is a modern multi fuel burner, a 32" TV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs and board games.
The kitchen has an original Rayburn stove which supplies heat to the kitchen and some hot water. There is also an immersion heater for when the stove is not lit.
There is a washing machine, tumble drier, electric cooker, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother and everything we think you will need for your stay.
The bathroom downstairs has a bath and electric shower. Also an electric fan wall heater and electric towel rail.
There is an oil filled electric heater in each room.
Bed linen and towels are supplied. There is tea, coffee and sugar so that you can have a cuppa on arrival.

Guest access
Guests will have access to all of the cottage and surrounding garden. There is a picnic table and garden bench.

Other things to note
Please note there is no WiFi as yet because BT say we are too far off the road to supply it. We apologise and are working towards installing it next year - all depending on BT. Lioniclate High School library, Benbecula allows visitors to use their pcs free.

There is a stove guard in the living room.

The bedrooms have been converted from loft space. We have provided a stair gate to ensure the safety of young children. Unfortunately, it may not suit those with restricted mobility.

As with a lot of remote areas, a mobile phone signal is often impossible, unless you’re with EE which seems to be very reliable. There is a landline phone. We ask that you only use it for emergencies.

Check mobile phone coverage before your stay if it is important to you and we suggest that you do any research for say, boat trips, etc before your stay.

Frank and I live in Renfrewshire. I work for a UK charity in Glasgow. We both have an interest in photography. I love walking, running and wildlife. We both enjoy reading. So, Uist is just perfect for us.

During your stay
We live and work on the mainland but are very happy to answer any questions via email or phone and are also happy for you to phone if you have any questions on arrival. I always phone on the evening after the guest arrives. This gives them time to settle in and let me know if they have any questions
