Set in Saligao village in North Goa (10-minute ride from Calangute and Candolim), Miss Jenny's Goa is a homestay in a 100-year-old Goan-Portuguese house, where we live with our friendly doggy. The two brand new guest rooms on the upper level are interconnected and also have private entrances - can be booked as a combined unit or 2 separate rooms. Good for families / groups. Ensuite rooms have double/ twin beds, living room, balconies, HD TV, AC, geyser for hot water, minibar & electric kettle.

The space
These are 2 of 3 rooms that we have at our homestay. We also have a garden cottage on the same property.

We have tried to retain the Goan-Portuguese aesthetic of the house while providing a comfortable stay with modern conveniences inside. Our home is our happy space and we have extended this philosophy to our guest rooms too. We have chosen bright, happy colours for the interiors and allowed lots of natural light to come in as that's something my husband and I both love in a home.

We have a lovely garden where you might end up spending most of your time here. Read a book, sip a cup of tea, listen to kingfishers, bulbuls and mynas, or play a boardgame or two in the common sitout. Staying in Saligao means that you have a chance to glimpse into the life of the local community.

Guest access
We have a lovely garden dotted with mango, chickoo and jackfruit trees and a common sit-out, which you are welcome to use at all times. As this is a residential neighbourhood, we request you to please refrain from playing loud music post 10pm.

Other things to note
We have a very friendly and playful little dog who loves people. We have doggy gates in different areas of the property so as to keep the dog out of the way for those who aren't comfortable with pets.

We have an inverter that supports basics, including TV, for the occasional power cuts.

In the interest of reducing use of plastic, we offer filtered water in reusable bottles placed in the rooms. These can be refilled anytime from the Bisleri water dispenser in the common sit-out area.

North Goa, Goa, India

Saligao offers everything you would picture in a typical Goan village – grand old Portuguese houses squatting next to each other, ancient jackfruit, mango and chickoo trees, kids riding their bikes and cows moseying along in the small lanes. What drew us to this village is the perfect location, away from the chaos but close enough to the fantastic restaurants and beaches that are a big part of every Goa vacation.

The village is beautiful and the people are friendly. We recommend wandering around its quaint lanes in the mornings or evenings. A walk around the village offers a chance to see Goan-Portuguese architecture with the balcaos, pretty oyster-shell windows, low, tiled roofs, and some very well-landscaped gardens. You will also hear many bird calls, and maybe even spot some birds like drongos, orioles, wagtails or sunbirds in the village and often in our garden too.

We're originally from Mumbai and have now moved to Goa where we run a B&B/ homestay. Working in the media industry (he was a PR professional and I worked with a travel magazine) gave us many opportunities to travel - both for work and fun. We both enjoy a slower pace of travel choosing to soak up the atmosphere of one destination rather than dashing from place to place trying to tick off cities. We always look forward to trying out local cuisine wherever we go and especially enjoy the great outdoors. A while ago we quit the big city life and moved to sunny Goa. We live in a restored 100-year-old Portuguese house in a lovely little village called Saligao. The location allows us to be close to the beaches/ bars/ cafes/ restaurants yet escape to our quiet cocoon at the end of the day. Incidentally, this is also how we choose our hotels when we travel. Moving to Goa has allowed us to slow down and enjoy some of the simpler pleasures of life and meet many interesting people from a variety of backgrounds.

During your stay
My husband Anirudh and I, Hardika, quit the big city life in Mumbai in favour of greener lungs and moved to the Sunshine State. When we first came to Saligao, we instantly fell in love with this quaint village where the bird calls are louder than traffic sounds and the neighbours smile and wave hello.

My husband loves meeting new people and sharing a laugh. I, too, enjoy interacting with people from different backgrounds and learning about different cultures. We're always happy to chat with our guests and share our home with them and help them experience a different, gentler side of Goa, which doesn't usually feature on travel websites.
