Maynes Lodge is a single storey cottage, privately situated 0.5 miles from the village of Symington, near Biggar and has a private enclosed garden with spectacular views over Tinto Hill and surrounding woodlands and farmland. It is the perfect location to enjoy many outdoor pursuits, from hillwalking, cycling & fishing, or visiting the towns of Biggar, Lanark & Peebles, yet only 45 minutes drive to Edinburgh and Glasgow. Two well behaved dogs welcome at no extra charge.

3 Nights minimum stay.

The space
The cottage has WiFi, freeview TV, DVD player, stereo, microwave, electric oven and hob and coffee machine. There are also games, DVDs and books to entertain you during your stay. High chair, cotbed and fire guard are all available on request. Initial logs are included in the price, and thereafter additional logs can be purchased at cost (honesty box). No smoking in the cottage thanks. Two well behaved dogs welcome.

There is a country house hotel (1 mile) which welcomes non-residents and a local shop within the village, otherwise the town of Biggar has many places to eat out and you can enjoy some local produce, or a spot of shopping in the many independent shops which line the high street. There is a local bus service from Symington to Biggar and Lanark. The nearerst train stations are Lanark (11 miles) and Carstairs (13 miles) where you can park you car and travel to the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

There are many outdoor activities in the area; hill walking in the Coulter fells or Tinto Hill, fishing for trout in the River Clyde, cycling on the many cycle paths or hitting the mountain biking trails that Glentress or Drumlanrig Castle have to offer. Or if you prefer a more relaxed stay there are many lovely coffee shops, pubs and restaurants (many are dog friendly) where you can relax and unwind.

A day in Edinburgh or Glasgow is easily accessible by car or train, or if you'd prefer to spend time closer to the cottage the UNESCO World Heritage site at New Lanark is well worth a visit. There is a museum in Biggar, beautiful parks and play areas for children, Kailzie, Dawyck and Traquair are all nearby. Plus there are many annual events in Biggar from Gala week (June), the Biggar Agricultural show (July), vintage car rally (Aug), science fair (Sept) and arts festival (Oct) and the impressive bonfire at Hogmanay.
