In a remote location on the Stoer peninsular, surrounded by spectacular coastline and magnificent mountains, Torran Cottage is ideally situated to provide mountaineering, coastal walks, kayaking, flora & fauna and some wonderful wild brown trout fishing (by permit) in the c.240 lochs in the local area. The cottage is semi-detached but the neighbouring cottage is rarely occupied.

Torran Cottage is a spacious two-bedroom property which has excellent living space. It was redecorated and refurbished over the summer of 2020 and has a modern upright piano which guests are welcome to play.

The cottage has oil fired central heating and hot water, mains electricity and mains water. Drainage is to a septic tank and care must be taken not to dispose of any unsuitable items through the drains.

The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, washer/dryer machine, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, electric oven with induction hob and is fully equipped with all the kitchen crockery, glasses, utensils, pots & pans you could need.

A good sized dining area, garden/sun room with piano, and cosy sitting room with open fireplace (sadly not currently usable) and a bookshelf full of books, CDs, games and ordinance survey maps complete the downstairs level. Digital FreeSat TV is available with over 200 channels.

The cottage has a 4G Router which provides very good internet speeds. There is a monthly cap on the data available however this is set at a suitable amount if used fairly and not excessively.

Upstairs, there is a large double room and a second bedroom with 2 twin beds which can be put together to form a kingsize. There is a travel cot but no bedding to go with this apart from a sheet. During these Covid times, if a couple book the cottage we won't generally make up the other bedroom, so please do request if you would like the other room to be made up.

A good sized bathroom is also upstairs with a very large shower, basin and WC. Egyptian cotton bed linen & towels are provided.

Torran Cottage is a no smoking residence. Dogs are welcome.

Guest access
All of the cottage will be available for your use.

Other things to note
Entry will be by a key safe box, the code will be provided. The neighbouring cottage is owned by a family with strong local ties who are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, but they very seldom use the property and do not let it.

Please be assured that we are staying up to date on all guidelines and recommendations linked to Covid-19 and are adopting enhanced cleaning protocols.

Location

Lochinver, Scotland, United Kingdom

There are many wonderful walking routes in the area and local beaches to explore, many of which start on foot from the cottage. There is a local grocery shop 20 min drive away in Drumbeg, and 'The Jammery' in Culkein (just three min drive / 20 min walk) sells refreshments, sandwiches, chutneys, jams & crafts. Flossie's Beach Store by the road in Clachtoll is just a 5 minute drive and has almost every food and drink item you could possibly need.

Lochinver, the main village of Assynt, is a 25 minute drive away and provides a range of services including several shops including a Spa food shop and a butcher, medical services, leisure centre and good quality restaurants. Ullapool, some 40 miles away, has a wider range of shops, a supermarket, restaurants, pubs and hotels, and is also the main ferry terminus serving Stornaway on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

Torran Cottage is tucked away down its own private driveway with ample parking space. The road out to the Stoer Peninsular conveniently connects (via a short, scenic drive) to the popular North Coast 500 Route, consistently rated as one of the most spectacular drives in the world. It is ideally situated to explore the North West corner of Scotland and in addition to everything the local countryside offers, trips to Loch Assynt, Ardvreck Castle, the Summer Isles, Falls of Kirkaig, Sandwood Bay, Cape Wrath and Durness are easily achievable in a day.

For more adventurous hikers, the famous mountains of Quinag, Stac Pollaidh, Canisp, Ben More Assynt and Suilven are nearby, dominating the local skyline.

I am a mother of 2 children (7 & 4) and live in Suffolk, UK. I am a professional Music Therapist working in special education, dementia care and an NHS hospital children's ward. I love the countryside and my family spend most of our time exploring nature. Owning a cottage in the Highlands has been a long standing dream of ours and we plan to regularly visit Torran Cottage ourselves throughout each year. I love photography, walking, cooking and music. My husband, Nathan, is a classical pianist and composer which is why we have a piano in the cottage, both for us and guests to enjoy. We love the location of this cottage and everything there is to explore in the surrounding area. We only purchased this property this spring 2020, but it is already treasured by us and we are updating the interior furnishings over the summer 2020 to make it even more appealing, for us and for you.

During your stay
Although we regularly visit Torran Cottage with our young family we do not live nearby. We have housekeeper who lives very nearby who will prepare the cottage for your arrival. Entry to the cottage will be gained via a key safe box. Our housekeeper (and ourselves) will be available to answer any queries by phone during your stay, and will, of course, be available in any emergency.
