House Rules

I am only able to get up to the cabin once a week, to bring fresh bedding, and thoroughly clean the cabin. That means that some of my guests will need to make their own bed, with provided clean bedding & leave the cabin as clean as they found it.
No smoking in the cabin
Dogs are sometimes allowed under certain conditions.
The cabin is skillfully crafted and very deluxe for a back country cabin. I would like it to be treated with respect. The area is a pristine mountainous region, to be cherished.

My wife and I spent five days/four nights in this amazing cabin together with our adult daughter and her boyfriend. Everything others have written about this cabin are true-Ann and Gordon have created a truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Yes, the uphill hike is strenuous and I highly recommend doing some significant stair climbing or other leg work outs well in advance if you are not used to steep uphill hiking (and to pack as lightly as possible). However, the climb is worth every step of it. The log cabin has everything one needs for a comfortable stay in the backcountry, including bed/mattresses & lots of warm blankets, a woodstove for heat, a propane stove for cooking (and cookware), and a fresh spring water source in the basement. As someone that has always tent backpacked in the past, I can say that this cabin was "luxury" in comparison. The views are extraordinary, and swims in the cold waters of the nearby lake while taking in the mountain views are something you will never forget. A well maintained trail from the cabin leads up over a nearby rock slide and then on to a beautiful alpine meadow. From here there are endless directions to explore and climb. Basically, guests at the cabin have access to an enormous and beautiful mountain/alpine area to explore, with very few other people in the area (we encountered only one other party of two while hiking a ridge trail several km from the cabin). For this reason, it is also important to hike smart, not take on climbs that one does not have the experience to complete safely, and to always be aware of one's location. Cell phone service is sporadic at best, so help will not be just a call away.(URL HIDDEN) Ann was very helpful and communication was always excellent. Ann is also very honest about what to expect in the hike up, while at the cabin, and about the level of difficulty in accessing some of the alpine peaks. She provided us with several maps of the area for use while at the cabin, and a detailed topographical map of the area is in the cabin. Overall, I would recommend this trip to anyone seeking a truly unique and unforgettable experience. We will definitely be back as soon as we can.

We spent three wonderful nights at the hermit thrush cabin, in August, with our five and eight-year-old boys. The trip up was fine, we just made sure to take our time and lots of breaks. Our five-year-old found the walk up a bit tough, by the end, but the stay was definitely worth it for him. Ann was very helpful and informative. This is a truly special experience, up in the alpine.

This was our second time visiting the cabin and it just keeps getting better. We enjoyed the hike up, the cool swim, the silence and seclusion and of course the day hikes through the rock fall and into the meadow and beyond. This cabin is a must do, it's worth every minute! Ann is very quick to respond to any questions and is accommodating to many plans. This will definitely not be our last time visiting! It's a slice of heaven, rain or shine!

We stayed in this cabin for two nights and we loved it. The walk was difficult, especially with our full packs, but worth it, it took a little over two hours. Once there we walked up to the lake and the meadows then relaxed by the cabin. We would definitely recommend this cabin for a beautiful and peaceful place to stay.

This was our second stay at the cabin, and again it was everything we'd hoped for! The first time was a winter hike, and we wanted to see this beautiful place in the summer too. Stayed with another couple this time, our good friends, and had a wonderful time. The hike up was still challenging, but more easily doable than during the winter. Of note, this time of year there are quite a few mosquitos, so bug spray is necessary. We enjoyed the vistas and alpine meadow, as well as the comfort of the cabin! Ann and her family are great hosts, and this is a very special place!

What a wonderful experience in this quiet and relaxing place. The cabin is comfortable and everything you need is up there. The hike was fun and steep! If you are a nature's lover, you must go there. It's a real little paradise in the middle of the mountains. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I love the outdoors and am fortunate enough to live in the mountains, by a creek, surrounded by wilderness and trails. My husband and I both shared a goal in making this alpine area available to others, by building a easy to use cabin. I do wood carving and drawing and my husband and I play music. .
