Looking to explore the Big Island on a budget? Our thoughtfully decorated apartment unit is perfect for the single traveler or adventurous couple! Walking distance to shops, dining, museums and more!
The space
The Lobin-Hung building was constructed in 1926 and comprised of 40+ units some of which are local businesses (fronting the building). The entrance is only accessible by key, and the gate is kept closed at all times. Besides a few local businesses, the apartment complex is home to a variety of tenants, from singles to small families. We are definitely a melting pot!
Our freshly painted unit feature:
-ceiling fan
-kitchen counter and vanity
-microwave
-12 cup coffee pot
-mini fridge
-Electric skillet
-smart TV
-bathroom vanity
We do supply plates, cups and utensils; however, the unit does not come with a stove/oven.
It is the perfect base camp. Rest comfortably on a full-size Simmons Beauty rest mattress. Fresh & clean linens and a light quilt make for a cool comfortable night's sleep.
Our location has a lot of foot traffic, however only residents and guest enter using their appropriate gate key. Security cameras are posted around the complex and my family and I are around, as we live on site. Quarters are close, and your windows gives views into the apartment complexes open courtyard. During the day you may see and hear our children playing with their cousins. We have chosen to homeschool our keiki giving us more flexibility as host and owners of Grace Kickboxing Academy which is located in the store front of the complex. Let us know if you're interested in any of our classes! It may get a bit noisy in the afternoon, so you may hear us reminding the kiddos to keep it down. Rest assured, as the evening approaches, they are ushered into the house!
It’s an old building, and we would like to be upfront with saying there is NO AC in the Airbnb. We do have fans to accompany the ceiling fan should you need it.
We are within walking distance to the bus terminal, grocery stores and gyms. Enjoy a variety of places that offer casual to fine dining. Or take a tour to historic sites like the Hilo Public Library where the Naha Stone sits, used by Native Hawaiians for cultural traditions. Lyman Museum has great artifacts and offers a tour of the Mission House, the oldest standing wood structure in the island of Hawaii!
For those visiting Hawaii for the first time, please do not be alarmed if you see geckos and insects, YES EVEN AN OCCASIONAL COCKROACH Lol- we live on an island! it’s a part of island life! We do our best to maintain this relic of a building and have regularly scheduled pest control service. You may even hear Coqui frogs during the night... an invasive little frog that makes a distinctive “coqui” sound. **Past guest who has stayed have thought they were birds lol!
Though Hilo is laid back and not much infrastructure has changed, we have had an increase in population including homelessness. Our location is central and not uncommon to see this- however this should not put a damper in your vacation, our community and apartment complex is a pretty tight knit one and everyone looks out for one another. We are happy to share that this complex is one of the few locally owned complexes in town as well!
We live on site so let us know ASAP of any questions and or concerns, we are here to help!
