The Maynard Log Cabin was erected by a homesteader after the civil war. We have moved and restored it and made it available for rent. It is off the grid, but it has a complete functioning kitchen, wood stove and sitting room downstairs. There are two antique beds with new mattresses upstairs. There is no electricity but the cabin is furnished with kerosene lanterns. The bathroom facilities consist of wash basins and outhouse. The cabin is surrounded by 40 acres of woods and meadows.

The space
This log cabin is nearly 150 years old having been erected by James Maynard shortly after the Civil War. We moved and restored it and it now sits in a meadow at the edge of our woods. The fully functional kitchen features an old-fashioned kerosene stove and period furnishings. A wood stove heats the cabin on chilly mornings. Multiple kerosene lanterns provide light after dark. The two upstairs beds are genuine antiques and are furnished with handmade quilts and feather pillows. Guests have access to an outdoor fire ring and barbecue. Guests should also feel free to explore the adjacent woods and property.

Long Prairie, Minnesota, United States

The cabin is close to the Alexandria/Douglas County Lakes area as well as Lake Osakis which is well known for its fishing opportunities. The Long Prairie River is only minutes away for those who enjoy canoeing. Our Amish neighbors frequently have fresh vegetable stands and there are a couple of Amish general stores where sturdy work clothing and kitchen utensils as well as bulk foods can be purchased. Lake Charlotte in Long Prairie has a popular swimming beach
