Our stay with Raven & Flame was an amazing experience. I stayed there with two friends on a road trip, and we immediately felt at home at their place. Flame's artwork around the house was beautiful, Raven was very accommodating in the home, and the organic food available was delicious and made the stay a great value for us. They also recommended some different stops on our trip that added incredible experiences. They know Charlottesville very well and I highly recommend you stay with them - you will feel comfortable, at home, and will be inspired by the artwork all around the house. We will definitely be staying here again next time we pass through Charlottesville!

Fairhaven was indeed a welcome haven on an otherwise complicated trip. The three guest rooms are clustered together with the shared bath on the main floor of the house with the shared kitchen and living room. The house is clean and organized (with I think it was five separate options in coffee-making technology, including a Keurig with re-usable containers). Raven and Flame were swift and helpful in answering the phone whether they were in the house or not. They were exceptionally gracious in some phone calls even before I arrived and was struggling through traffic and rain at night on a too-long drive. For those guests arriving in full dark, it's hard to see house numbers on the streets during the final few blocks, but don't worry. The guest house has a small but well-lit sign in the yard that resolves all. The hosts provide local eggs and bread for anyone inclined to fix themselves breakfast, and the other guests while I was there were great about following the house practices of cleaning up after themselves. My favorite memories are warm toast with a fine berry jam for a rainy-morning breakfast, the dainty deep-purple-blue irises lining the front walkway and the thoughtful hospitality of the Raven and Flame. (They even rescued a book I left tangled in the sheets and restored it to me before I left town.)

Raven and Flame were wonderful hosts--very organized, clear and professional. They provided all necessities we could've asked for during our stay, including local/organic food for a self-serve breakfast and recommendations for places to go in the area. Comfortable room in a quiet residential neighborhood. Walkable (about 20 minutes) to the Downtown Mall. Would highly recommend.

Interaction with guests

We love to socialize, and we know that guests may just want to relax and unwind. We live in a separate apartment downstairs, and are often available to chat.

With three rooms, there are often other guests around to meet and get to know. We have had guests from Europe, South America, the Middle East and Asia, providing a rich environment for learning and meeting new people.

About Raven & Flame

Raven is an innkeeper, a candle-maker, and a therapist in Charlottesville, VA. Flame is a massage therapist and artist. We've run Fairhaven Guesthouse for three years now. It keeps us very busy!

We heard about AirBnB from a guest in our previous hostel (Alexander House). We've been excited about trying it out.
