Old High Shield Cottage is located on the southern border of Northumberland National Park and half way along Hadrian's Wall. Hadrian's Wall, Vindolanda and Housesteads are within an easy walk, with the Hadrian's Wall Path and Pennine Way crossing just north of the cottage.

As well as walking, guests can go horse riding, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching and fishing, with evenings spent relaxing in front of the fire or star gazing in Europe's largest protected dark sky area.

Perfect location for accessing walks along Hadrians Wall, which was our intention. Michael's son John was very helpful during check in and pointed out some good locations for walking and some nearby pubs.

This is the perfect place for a serene escape. Breakfast with the birds and the moors and fantastic star gazing. Absolutely would recommend, the host is incredibly relaxed and friendly.
