Old High Shield Cottage is located on the southern border of Northumberland National Park and half way along Hadrian's Wall. Hadrian's Wall, Vindolanda and Housesteads are within an easy walk, with the Hadrian's Wall Path and Pennine Way crossing just north of the cottage.

As well as walking, guests can go horse riding, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching and fishing, with evenings spent relaxing in front of the fire or star gazing in Europe's largest protected dark sky area.

Great location, being close to prime sites on Hadrian's Wall. Clean, cosy space. We especially liked the wood burning stove with its plentiful supply of logs. Central heating system was lovely, too. Michael was happy to share his knowledge of the area.
