The space
Private house located in Reykjahlíð village on Lake Mývatn. Guests have access to the entire house. Two bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom. The property is located near a golf course, sports field, beach volleyball, fitness center and great hiking and cycling trails. Short on all major services such as shopping, gas station, information center, Mývatn Nature bath and world famous tourist sites. Perfect place for families or friends. Dogs are very welcome in this house but please inform the host when booking. Further rules on dog keeping in the village can be found when guests receive a booking confirmation.
The house is ideal for a family with children or friends and I recommend a longer stay as there is plenty to do in the Mývatn area and the surrounding area. For example, various pastimes are just 100 meters away. 9 hole golf course, sports field, beach volleyball, gymnasium and fitness room. There is plenty of marked hiking and cycling trails and one cannot forget the unique nature around Lake Myvatn.
The Diamond circle with 3 unique waterfalls, Dettifoss, Selfoss and Hafragilsfoss, Hljóðakletta and Ásbyrgi is an ideal day trip. If the mind searches for the highlands, a day trip to Askja and that Holuhraun lava field is a completely enlightened experience that will never be forgotten.
You can take your bike with and cycle around the lake. It is 38 km and an ideal day trip. Húsavík and its neighbor offer very interesting museums and whale watching, for example.
It only takes about half an hour to drive to Goðafoss waterfall and I can recommend extending the trip further up the river and exploring the Aldeyjarfoss waterfall and its surroundings.
The quaint craft house is just one kilometer away from my home. There you can view and shop crafts from the local people, talk to the craftsmen and taste/buy various home-made foods.
Yes ok, you may want to extend your stay for 3-5 days. Even a week. No matter, contact me with a booking inquiry and get an offer of accommodation over several days.
I look forward to offering you accommodation and you are always welcome to contact me for more information. I was born and raised in the Mývatn area and know the area and the life of the people around the lake earlier in times and in modern times very well.
My house is located in a quiet street in the village of Reykjahlíð, north east of Lake Mývatn.
The house itself is an old, cosy and lovable small wooden house with soul. The floor cracks a bit when you walk, kind of talking to you, telling stories of the past. And the walls are thin, keeping no secrets.
The two bedrooms are small but comfortable. They are equipped with comfortable single beds, reading lamps, table, mirror, chair and darkening curtains -blinder-. The beds will be made at your arrival and your towels is on your bed. The rooms are decorated with antique things from my parents farm usable as hangers. My girlfriend loves to handcraft with sheep wool. You are welcome to wear her houseshoes, keeping your feet warm.
The bathroom is equipped with a shower, toilet, sink, a cupboard and a hairdryer.

Guest access

Other things to note
Please take into consideration my neighbors and residents of the village. It is not allowed to have a party in the house or noise that could disturb neighbors. After 22.00, calmness is recommended outdoors.

WHAT TO SEE AROUND MY HOME:
My house is in the suburbs of Reykjahlíðar village by the north east corner of Lake Mývatn. It is short on major services, restaurants, sightseeing outlets and the most popular travel destinations. A wide range of hiking trails can be found in the vicinity, golf course, gym, and outdoor activities. The highlands of Iceland are in the backyard of the area around Lake Mývatn, Askja and Víti. Dettifoss Waterfall is 50 km away. Húsavík and whale watching are 56 km away. Goðafoss waterfall 50 km away, Ásbyrgi 80 km
It takes two minutes to drive to the town center where there’s a bank, post office, supermarket, gasoline station, information center, pharmacy and the unique local handcraft store Dyngjan with lot of sheep wool products, artcraft, home made bread, jams and more. It only takes five minutes to drive to the Mývatn Nature Baths, a perfect relaxing end to a long day. Several restaurants are within 5 minutes drive if you want to make your stomach happy. Popular nature wonders like volcanic active area Krafla with explosion crater Víti and Leirhnjúkur, Hverir high thermal area, the explosion crater Hverfjall, Grjótagjá - a fissure with two caves and hot underground stream inside, the troll garden Dimmuborgir and the pseudocrater area Skútustaðir are reachable within 5 to 15 minutes drive.
NORTHERN LIGHTS:
From late August and all winter through to middle of April the Northern Lights can be seen. Lake Mývatn is located high in the mountains, which gives good chances to spot the lights. We have more clear sky and higher rates of seeing the lights than other areas in Iceland. I am glad to give you hints to point out great spots to let yourself enchant from this nature wonder and to take magnificent photos.
MIDNIGHT SUN:
You can experience midnight sun from mid-May to mid-July. This time is a unique experience of energy and timelessness. The night's lights are mild and soothing, the nature slumbering, the birds silent for a while. In 2 hours there is absolute silence, but then it all wakes up again at 4 o'clock when the sun comes up and the birds begin to sing joyfully again. I especially recommend waking up one night at this time and experiencing tranquility and quiet in the unique nature of Lake Myvatn.
