There is plenty to do in the Georgian market town of Melbourne and the property is situated within a 5 minute walk right into the centre, where there is an array of local amenities. The local shops include ladies and children’s clothes, bridal wear, florist, shoe, electronics and repairs, sweets, antiques, gifts and jewellery, craft, delicatessen, butchers, bakers, newsagents, wine, cakes, boutiques, beauticians, hairdressers, stationery and print, vehicle repairs, pharmacy, opticians and many more.

The town also has a number of excellent restaurants, some a La Carte, and others serving local pub food, as well as some great cafes and takeaways.

There is a post office and 2 ATM machines within walking distance.

Visitors come to see the sights, including the parish church - described as a "a miniature cathedral" - and to see it’s the gorgeous setting next to Melbourne pool and Melbourne Hall.

Thomas Cook was Melbourne-born and started his travel empire from here by selling train excursion tickets; they flattened his birthplace in 1968 but the memorial "cottages" in the town centre remind the visitors of where he started out.
Nearby are two stately homes, Calke Abbey - a historic National Trust Property, with walled gardens and an orangery, set with a 600-acre nature reserve, and Melbourne Hall - home to Queen Victoria's first Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne, who also gave his name to Melbourne in Australia. The house has roots dating back to King Charles 1.
Staunton Harold Reservoir is within a 5-10 minute walk and here you will find a good activity play area for children, a café and beautiful countryside to explore. There are numerous other sites and stunning countryside to explore in and around Melbourne.
