Located in one of the most beautiful areas of Uganda, with a 360° degree view of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Rwenzori Mountains and Kyambura Gorge, Le Gite provides you with unique but simple accommodation. The house is all constructed from wood, and built locally. Our wish is to offer our guests a touch of Ugandan village life, while they enjoy the magic of the area. at Le Gite, you will have an authentic experience and opportunity to soak up the atmosphere away from the crowds.

The space
You will be able to cook for yourself in the house. A fridge, oven and coffee machine are all provided. Just bring coffee, jam, and honey - you can access good homemade honey, and other local food products, on the way to Kyambura.

Alternatively you can order food from Suraina, who will cook hearty local ugandan dishes for you, with 24 hours notice. Let us know if you wish to receive the menu to make your selection and inform us about the time you want the meal to be ready. Each meal is @ 15 USD/pax.

Suraina will prepare the food but you will need to give her access to tablecloths, plates, glasses to lay out the meal on the table. You can either eat your meals inside in the tastefully decorated living area of the house or outside, enjoying stunning views of the local surroundings.

BBQs can also be organized on request (24 hours notice needed). BBQ is @ 20 USD/pax

The rate for the house doesn’t include washing clothes but if you like Joseph - our onsite caretaker - can organize washing for you, at a cost of 15 USD. You will also need to inform him if you want him to clean the house during your stay (he speaks French, English, and Swahili).

Please note, at times there could be water and power outages in the area. The water pressure can be low at times, even though we have a water pump. Please bear with us, and adopt the relaxed village approach!

Finally, we are trying to conserve the natural beauty of the area so please be mindful about recycling. Kindly use the bins dedicated to each type of waste and help us maintain Uganda's incredible countryside.

Guest access
From Isahaka take the road to Queen Elizabeth National Park. After reaching the park view point (where you can purchase local honey) you will start climbing down to Kyambura village. You will see a cotton factory on the right hand side, then a petrol station then Kyambura stage that is located on the bend of the road. There is then a dirt road going right with the Volcano Safari Lodge sign post. Turn right here, where you will see plenty of boda boda drivers (motorbike taxis) and shops on that stage. You can either ask anyone about Bakari's place or keep driving about 150 m straight, until you see a sign post for Le Gite on the right hand side. Climb the road up to the hills and you will see the house on the hill, with a great view of the area.

Other things to note
I am from France and my husband is Ugandan. We have a daughter and son, who are both under five. We have lived in Rwanda for six years now. I have been moving a lot worldwide and like discovering about people's different ways of life, countries and cultures. I am an open-minded person. Our house is friendly and open to the outside. It is a family-friendly environment, and we enjoy interacting with people in the local community too.

You are welcome to pick fruits, lemon grass, tea leaves from the garden or anything you find of your taste! The village, which is a 15 minute walk from home, can provide you with veggies, fruits, water, milk, bread, meat, eggs, drinks.... You can order fresh fish from Lake Edouard, and local chicken by asking Joseph with at least 1 day notice.

In the Neighborhood you have places where to get local honey, product and craft, great women cooperative that recycle paper to make craft papers, bags and album photos.... plenty of activities to be done as crater lakes walk, gorge walk, medicinal plant walk, mud bath in hot source and swimming in Rwenzori river or enjoy a local SPA (on fire wood....). People are extremely friendly around the place, take time to shake hands.
