This gorgeous 2BR/2BA designer townhome has all the makings of a perfect vacation. Large open living/kitchen/dining with tons of outdoor living. Both rooms have their own bath, beautiful pool and gardens, security and a quick walk to town.

The space

The townhome is in a small boutique community. While all the units are very similar, I take pride in this really being my home- not a rental. I can grab my dog and passport and be there for the weekend. I don't need to bring anything. Every time I return it takes me a few days as I think to myself, "Is this really my house? It's amazing!"
Before you read on....

IMPORTANT: This is a small boutique community. While there is no construction going on in my building, there is construction on the property. Sometimes whatever they are working on isn't too noisy, but other days it is. I have taken pricing into consideration to accommodate for this. I am usually out all day and it doesn't bother me, but it's your vacation and that may make this place not for you.

Welcome to my home and to my heart. Yes, my house is more about feelings than about features. While it’s a beautiful place, it’s the sense of peace and tranquility and wonder as you enter. You open the door. Then you blink. Twice. Your gaze goes to a wall of windows that brings nature in, right in front of you. Want views?? Just walk to the window. That, too is what Casa Lucha is all about. San Juan off to your left tucked in the hills, the Bay in front of you. Wow, you say! This is why we chose San Juan, why we took a chance on Nicaragua – yet this was unexpected!

Sit down, open a beer or soda and take it all in. Then, when the nerves are settled, look around. I want this dining room table, you’ll say! Where do I get this couch and living room table?? Well, it’ll be hard to find up north, but here the wood-crafting blends in with the wooden trim, handrails, bamboo ceiling. What I have found is that my friends walk in and immediately take in the view, then with affection start feeling the wood and the surfaces and they want the same. Well, this is all yours; for a week, two weeks, month or more.

Why waste space with walls? As the photos show, the floor plan on the second floor is open with a fully equipped modern “chef” kitchen (yep! Blender for your fresh fruit smoothies!). I love to cook and MUST have all the culinary conveniences! However if you’d like a gourmet meal prepared by a world class chef, I’ll arrange that as well. Want a traditional Nicaraguan meal? No problem. So, whether you want to cook the fresh fish caught daily, or sample gallo pinto – the Nica traditional lunch and dinner, we can arrange all that for you.

The kitchen then flows into the dining room and living room and then to the patio and you know where you’ll be spending most of your time! Try to lift the dining room table. It was too heavy and large to be carried in and thus had to be assembled in my home. Watch your lower back if you try to lift it – I have no liability insurance! Comfy couch, TV (yes, cable, large new flat screen). You can now watch the news or Super Bowl in one ear as the waves provide a soothing background for the other. A DVD player , books, another exquisitely designed table in front of the couch with books galore and reading nook complete the picture. Don’t get too relaxed, the true adventure is just steps away from the front door. But, to make sure you are prepared for the new culture, I have Spanish study books so you can face the local townspeople with confidence!!

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you enter the main bedroom. I spend time here and wanted a “serene” feel – the tranquility that a bedroom should have. A brief “oh my goodness” moment as you stare at the ample king bed with designer comforter (sorry, Kenz my huggable is not included, but feel free to bring your own), wood sliding glass doors, the garden, pool, tree of all trees and vista directly in front of you! You have a fun and modern/natural bathroom with stream stones and double sink. There’s a walk in closet for your vacation wardrobe – one bathing suit, 2 pair of shorts, t-shirts, a few blouses and sandles. All the bedroom furniture is handmade – again, you can’t take it with you - but, yes, I have Wi-Fi throughout, so you can keep in touch with the REAL world – sending photos or more likely telling your friends to come on down! Or better yet, you can ignore everyone, just for a little while. This is a vacation, right?

Outside on the patio, where I like to spend quality time, there is a hanging hammock chair. Once you get in, its hard to get out!! Or, sip a cup of local premier java siting at the café-like table with rustic designed bar-stools . Enjoy breakfast “al fresco” as you watch San Juan and the fishing boats slowly wake up.

Descend the stairs – again, the hardwood tropical stairs are a knockout and at the bottom on your left is bedroom two with a “custom designed bunk style bed but with queen mattresses instead of twin. That’s room for 8 depending on size. It too has its own bathroom, again in the unique style that still surprises and delights me.

This is my home. I talk about it with reverence, pride, delight love and peace. As I mentioned it is my paradise to relax, contemplate, Yoga on the roof patio, relax after a beach run or read in the afternoon shade. It has the style of “Amy”… it’s my home. It has the modern Nicaraguan feeling with my own touches. This house is not just a “(URL HIDDEN) a place I love and I know you will too.

Oh, last thought! At night go up the winding staircase outside to the open roof. You have a choice. You can look at San Juan del Sur as its nightlights glimmer and warm breezes cool the land. Or…my preference is to lie on my back, feel the warmth of the day sun, and, as your eyes become accustomed to the black sky above, you’ll suddenly know that what you are looking out is the real one and only MILKYWAY, in a way you have never seen it before. It’s real and for the rest of your tropical vacation, it’s all yours. Soak it in. But, try not to get too relaxed out here in the night sky or you’ll find yourself waking up to the early morning dawn.

This is my slice of heaven. The peace and serenity in my get-away has a way of lowering your pulse, lowering your blood pressure. You WILL try to figure out how to extend your time, just a few days more. That is what Casa Lucha is all about. That’s why I live here and I welcome you to my home.

You will have access to the entire townhome, 2 floors of living space and the private roof top deck is all yours as well. It was up there I decided this would be my next home. The pool and gardens are shared with the small community, but consider yourself lucky if you actually come across any of my neighbors or guests to share pool time with. Everyone is cool and always has great stories and local insight, however you'll usually have these shared spaces to yourself.

I will always be easy to reach via email or text, however Yanisay is the property managaer and she is great. She lives in the neighborhood and is always able to help you with anything you want during your stay. My buddy, Santo, is the care taker of the property making sure you are safe.

I love this neighborhood. It is such a great mix. We are right at the entrance to Pacific Marlin. The cliffside around the bay of San Juan where the Nicaraguan elite all have their weekend homes. In there not only will you find Jesus "El Cristo" but some of the most beautiful houses in the area. As you walk across the foot bridge from town you enter The Talanguera. An amazing mix of local simple nica houses mixed with the larger beach front houses on the beach street. The neighbors are great and there is a little "pulperia" convenience store in the neighborhood selling water, eggs, sodas and snacks.

You really don't need a car staying at Casa Lucha and Yanisay can always arrange transportation for you for trips outside of town, or you can catch taxis from the market. Alamo, Dollar, and Budget all have locations in town as well.

Anything special or additional services can be arranged for you, if you need help getting here or want certain grocery items available for you, just ask!

Definitely recommend this place! Big bedrooms, big kitchen, big living room, amazing views and a pool - I wish it was my condo in Toronto! The place was very clean and tidy when we arrived and the property manager, Yanaisy, is very friendly, helpful, and responsive. It's close to town of you need anything (about 15 min walk) but it's also far enough away from the busy streets to feel like you're outside of it all. Perfect spot.

We stayed for almost three weeks at this lovely townhouse and couldn't have been happier. The home was so well set up for comfort for its guests. It was a bit of a walk to town but that meant that we only needed to participate in loud evening activity if we wanted to. The house is close to the beach, has lovely balconies for relaxing and enjoying the incredible view, and has the perfect pool for cooling overheated bodies. Amy and Yanisay were wonderful hosts, helping us find everything we needed to make our stay perfect. We had a great stay in San Juan del Sur and look forward to spending time there again.

If you are considering a visit to SJDS don't hesitate for a moment to rent Amy's place. In person it exceeds the beauty of the photos. Her house manager is awesome! It is comfortable, clean-bedrooms smelled amazing, not sure how they did that...fresh but not perfume like or over-powering. Depending on the kind of outing you want to have you can drive into town or a neighboring beach or easily walk. You should know that the kitchen is well outfitted, but no microwave-I just used the toaster over to heat up some leftovers. The bathrooms have plush, clean, fresh towels, but don't forget your own soap. Her house has what have to be new towels for the pool and beach. There are movies and board games, nothing is overlooked! I can't recommend her home enough...we will certainly return.

Amy's home was beautiful, comfortable, and had awesome views of San Juan del Sur. After trekking around other parts of Nica on the earlier leg of our trip, her home brought us the rest and relaxation we were looking for in our stay in sjds. Yanaisy was super helpful throughout our stay and made sure we got in/helped arrange travel for us on our way out. It's minutes from the beach and only about 15-20 to town but the footbridge is out to cross the river that runs into the beach, so if you're in town late and its high tide, you'll probably need to catch a taxi back (only a few bucks) vs wade across. Overall, amazing stay.
