A lovely 16th century family house in a small quiet country village close to London and many places of interest. The house is perfect for families or a party of friends with a large open plan kitchen/family room with wonderful country views.
The White House is a Grade II listed family home, with lovely period beamed rooms and a newly extended kitchen/family room with wonderful views onto the surrounding countryside. It is a great party house with good outside space, and also makes a relaxed, easy to live in family home. Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept downstairs.
A lovely square low beamed room with a wonderful open fireplace. A table tennis table takes up most of the room and is likely to be constantly used being in the centre of the house.
A fantastic newly converted kitchen/family room with another open fireplace and a kitchen table that can seat 10. There is a large fridge/freezer, 2 Bosch ovens, an induction hob, microwave, 2 dishwashers, Nespresso machine and a boiling water tap. All plates, cutlery, dishes, utensils and pans are available and the kitchen is equipped with everything you are likely to need. There is a small larder off the kitchen with some space for your food and please feel free to use spices and condiments that are already there. There is a large flat screen TV facing the table with surround sound and a DVD player.
Sliding doors open onto the terrace and garden. The kitchen is a bright and open space ideal for entertaining and fun!
Dominated by a large L-shaped sofa this a place for you all to relax with a DVD or TV projected onto the wall. There is a Jetmaster wood-burning fire which throws out heat making the room cosy and comfortable.
With a desk for working, this room could also be used as a children's playroom. Stairs go up from here into the spare bedroom above.
BOOT ROOM/LAUNDRY ROOM
Great for dogs, there is a trough to wash dirty boots and hanging space for your coats. There is also an vintage French table football for when you need a change from table tennis! In a separate adjoining room, you will find the boiler, water softener, washing machine, dryer, another sink and drying rack.
Off the hall and close to the kitchen with a washbasin and loo.
With a very comfortable new king size bed, and 'ensuite' bathroom above . The bathroom in the eaves is reached by stairs in the room and includes a large bath tucked away in the beams, a power shower, basin and loo. Towels and bed linen are provided.
With a small window at the back of the house this bedroom has a antique mahogany queen sized bed and a spare single bed.
On the same landing is a family bathroom with bath, basin and loo.
A lovely light, bright room with 2 Vi-Spring large single beds and doors to the main landing and the spare bedroom. For longer lets the walk in cupboard can be emptied for your use.
A quirky spare bedroom with a lovely double French bed tucked away in a cosy corner and stairs down to the office.
ENSUITE SHOWER ROOM - power shower, basin and loo.
Ladder stairs go up to a single bedroom and ensuite bathroom. This bedroom is in the eaves and has less head height. Our daughter's Banksy paintings and photos make this room full of character and it's quiet and away from the action with a very comfortable single bed. The bathroom has a freestanding bath, basin and loo and is accessed under or over a beam!
To the front of the house is a pretty walled formal garden which gets lots of sun in the afternoon. At one end is The Little House, a converted 2 bedroom barn where we are based but may also be available for rent.
The Bourne River runs alongside the road with a footbridge and car bridge giving access to the house and parking area. The Bourne is a really pretty little river which usually flows from February to July.
To the back of the house is a terrace and lawned garden leading onto a small field with a trampoline and football goal. There is a footpath through the field with direct access to beautiful walks.
The views from the kitchen and garden are lovely with barely a house in site despite being in the middle of a village. The village itself is small and friendly with a pub behind and both neighbouring villages have village shops and post offices with lots of local pubs dotted along the valley. There are also several Michelin starred restaurants a short (25 minute) drive away.
The White House is situated in the pretty Bourne Valley hamlet of Stoke, in rural North Hampshire. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and walks yet is within 20 minutes of the M4, M3, the historical sites of Stonehenge, Avebury Rings, Danebury Rings, and cities and towns such as Winchester, Marlborough, Hungerford and Newbury. For dog lovers and walkers there are many trails and footpaths in close proximity such as the Test Way and Watership Down. The area is also a cyclists paradise. For children, TreeRunners is 10 minutes away as is Finkley Down Farm; Intech Science Museum in Winchester is 20 minutes away, and half an hour away in Basingstoke there is the Aquadrome, bowling, cinemas and Airkix, the indoor skydiving tunnel.
The house, garden and adjoining field. There is a trampoline and football goal in the field. Hurdles, badminton and croquet are also available and please do ask if you need something in particular as we will probably have it.
Interaction with guests
We will usually be based in the Little House when you are staying though are unlikely to see you except when you arrive and leave. We are always at the end of a phone for any queries.
Other things to note
We have reasonable broadband with Cat 6 wiring and WiFi. Mobile coverage is patchy. We have Vodafone and have to go out to the field to get it! Other networks may be better.
All bed linen, towels, loo paper and kitchen washing up stuff included. Please note the stairs in the house are quite steep.
Available during the week or for weekends of 2 nights or more with a check in time after 3pm and check out time of 11am, with some flexibility. We hope you have a lovely time but would be grateful if you could look after our house and leave it as you find it, and let us know of any breakages or problems.
The house is strictly no smoking and please do not allow your guests to sleep on the sofas.
