Experience an independent, private, sparkling clean studio close to downtown Guelph with full amenities. Located in a gorgeous tree-filled 200 ft backyard, this cozy urban cottage has a comfortable double bed with new mattress, gas fireplace, fully stocked kitchen, separate shower, 2-piece washroom, sleeping loft, and private back deck. With strict, recommended enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols, we are fully committed to maintain your health and safety as our top priority.

The space
The cottage is private and independent, and is located in the middle of our 200ft deep backyard. Surrounded by trees and gardens, it feels like staying at a cottage, yet is close to the heart of downtown Guelph. With a private entrance, and back deck, there is plenty of space to stay safe, and also get outside, and enjoy the wealth of nature in an urban setting. You are welcome to draw the curtains, and enjoy the fire place and some privacy, and also walk through the full backyard space, when needed. Guests are asked to practise social distancing and hygiene protocols recommended by Public Health.

Guest access
Walk past our house on the right, through a wood gate, along a flagstone path to the left, and down the stone steps to the studio.

Other things to note
We are committed to go above and beyond to maintain safe and clean spaces for guests. We have a minimum 24hrs between guest stays, and have implemented strict enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols recommended by Airbnb and Public Health.

We have a two friendly border collies, Dash & Sophie, who live in our backyard, and may greet you with the enthusiasm of a border collie looking to herd urban sheep. They are very friendly and love the attention. You are welcome to throw a ball or stick, yet beware this brings a commitment to continue playing, so we recommend not throwing anything, unless you have some time, and want to play for a while :)

In regular times, every Wednesday from 4pm-8pm from June to October, we host a potluck & CSA food pickup in our backyard that brings together community minded change makers from the neighbourhood & downtown. During the pandemic, we will adjust accordingly for CSA food pickup that follows recommended Public Health guidelines.

Parking is available in the parking lot across the street, next to the apartment building at 46 Meadowview Ave, and also on the west side of Meadowview Ave. Please lock your vehicle at all times when parked.

Prices for short term stays (under 28 days) are subject to HST. For Canadian guests on a business trip, you can claim the HST as an Input Tax Credit

We are Mike and Mary-Kate. We care about creating an amazing, supportive community of people around us, local food, sustainable living, environmental design, and having a whole bunch of fun. We live in downtown Guelph, Ontario and are at the beginning stages of transforming our house and yard into an urban farm. We have three kids, Rowan (12), Sikhona (9), and River (8), 2 border collies (Dash & Sophie), 2 ferrets (Bingo & Buddy), and a corn snake (Tiny). We have started the processing of transitioning our property to a "post peak oil" way of being. We have renovated our old stone house and have roughed in solar panels, solar hot water, and grey water. We are excited to try to determine how to grow and produce as much food as possible from our incredible property right in downtown Guelph. We have creative ideas, and are loving every moment of living in possibility. We own a 6-plex apartment building across the road from our house, and we’ve just acquired the house next door. Our aim is to create spaces to host interesting, creative, inspired people who we will share our lives with. Around us, several friends have purchased houses and a community with intention has started to emerge as we are able to garden together, share child care, and help each other in a number of ways. We have also converted the next door house into a co-living space to meet mixed needs by hosting volunteers, short and long term guests. We have enjoyed a steady stream of really awesome travellers who have joined us over the past few years to help us in a number of ways, and become part of the community.
