Røtnes is a beautiful bay on the stunning island of Engeløya, just opposite the Lofoten Islands. Here you can find pristine, white beaches, mountains and valleys and the sea is crystal clear with plenty of fish. In our homestead we have a generous size barn where we have an artist studio, workshops and the guest studio apartment that we offer up as Air B&B. A wooden rowing boat, a canoe, kayaks and bikes to rent in spring, summer and autumn.

The space
The private apartment is located in the carefully and authentically restored barn on our smallholding 100 meters from the seashore. I have restored the 1920´s barn with sustainable and local materials creating a space that is both environmentally and aesthetically conscious. It has a light and spacious open plan living room/kitchen combined with a fireplace in front of a beautiful mosaic wall and panoramic mountain views from the large central window. There are two additional beds that can be put in the living room to accommodate a family or a group of 4. It is a well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher. The bathroom has a very nice shower and a washingmachine. There is a separate toilet. We also have a small writers hut with a comfortable double bed that can be rented in addition to the flat in the summer, but there is no bathroom in the hut. In the summer it is possible to purchase home-grown organic produce from our vegetable garden and eggs from our chickens.

Guest access
The guests will have access to the private appartement in the barn and adjoining balcony and will also be welcome to use the garden.

Other things to note
The island does not have any cafes or other catering opportunities in the period between September and June. Guests should plan to purchase groceries and cook during this period. The nearest shop is a 10 minute drive and some produce may be available to purchase on-site (organic, local, or homegrown).

Location

Engeløya, Nordland, Norway

Engeløya is a stunning island that is said to be the hidden gem of North Norway and the untouched "little Lofoten." The island is a breathtaking place to explore; we have the highest population of sea eagles in the world and amazing, wild nature, beautiful beaches with secret coves where you can swim and exciting mountains with good hiking trails of varying levels. On the island and the surrounding area there are many trail biking opportunities and in the winter-time, there are many frozen lakes on which to skate, and vistas for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and randonnee. The island is additionally a historical site with many viking remains and burial grounds, a fort from the second world war, and a local museum open from mid June until mid August. People are very friendly and happy for a chat over a coffee and a waffle!
