An authentic stone village house but modified for comfortable western use. A unique bargain in Bodrum, as it is a stand alone home with small swimming pool sitting above the village. Wonderful views of Aegean Sea and hills and cool northern breezes.

The space

This village house is of traditional stone, with 50 cm (20 inch) thick walls and built mid-20th century. It is located near the Bodrum village of Yalikavak and less than 20 minutes to Bodrum city. Standing high and above the other houses in the village allows unobstructed, fabulous views of the mountains, the sea, plus the harbour of Yalikavak. The sunset is fabulous. The location on the North side of the Peninsula affords cool breezes. The house has an extensive veranda/patio where one can relax or have a slow meal while taking in the views. Entering the house, to the left, is the Living Room with 'L' shaped traditional village seating. The kitchenette adjoins. To the right, is the master bedroom. From the master bedroom you enter a small dressing room that leads to the bathroom. Original artwork and antiques throughout. This is a house to use as a base for exploring the area around Bodrum or for simply relaxing.
This is a great place simply to get away from it all. It is romantic and very private but a simple walk of a few meters will bring you into the village area where there are tea shops, and a small grocery shop. It is a peaceful area. We have had families who come with mature children who enjoy sleeping on the patio. We can provide a single or double bunk bed for this purpose. The outside patio is covered 70% of its area (all of the seating area). There are over sized cushions throughout to relax with. The patio has an old Ottoman water fountain that is very handy and beautiful to look at. The new tiled pool is a dipping pool. On hot days, it is a pleasure to just immerse oneself. From the pool you can see the best sunsets and wait for the moon to rise.
Out of season visits: Both studios are also ideal for Fall, Winter and Spring visits to Bodrum as, in those seasons, heating is included in the pricing and warm bedding duvets provide exceptional comfort. Most restaurants have fireplaces and without crowds of tourists, the cuisine is at it's best. Scores of historical sites are yours for the day. Flights from NY, and European counties are at their lowest and Bodrum is just a 55 minute flight from exciting Istanbul.

We think Bodrum, out of season, is truly the best kept secret in the Aegean region.

Guest access

Stand alone house. Parking above then stone staircase to house. Highest house in village. Great chaise lounge chairs, umbrella next to pool. Covered veranda to eat your meals outdoors.

Interaction with guests

Owner lives 1 km away but is happily available anytime.

Other things to note

There is no wifi at our cottage and to keep the price down, I can't justify a 365 day phone line, coming into the house when the house rents only seasonally.
But,,,, there is some interest from some guests to have wifi at the cottage itself.
There is a GSM (4.5G) wifi extender that has its own sim card and smart card inside. It has some Gbits loaded and if it runs out (Rare if you use only email and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) for a few hours a day) you just go down to the village and have it loaded up again. It is about the size of an Ipod
You simply plug it in the wall and it gives a signal withing 50-100 meters. It also has a 3 hour battery inside, so you can take to the beach. Anyone who can enter the password can use it..... laptop, mobile phones, tablets, etc.
If you need this, I need a $100 deposit via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), which I will return to you when you return the gadget. Rental is $20 for 7 days or less.
You need to let me know in advance, if you want this, because it might be in use elsewhere.
WiFi is available at most restaurants, etc on the peninsula

We had a lovely stay in Frank's rustic house. The view from the pateo and pool are amazing and the welcome treats delicious. At night you can see (and unfortunately hear) the hustle and bustle from the main road. The dipping pool is a nice size. Before check-out a handyman came around without notice and startled us a bit, but other than that the house and surroundings give you a lot of privacy.

Such a perfect family retreat! Arrived to lovely Vadat, were given delicious welcome treats and woke up each morning to roosters and cats napping on our porch. What more could you ask for? Frank and Berna were extremely helpful in making our stay easy for us and our 12 month old daughter by having a cot and high chair were waiting which was great. The house was perfectly cozy, had a warm shower, a great pool for dips and it was close to a big grocery store for stocking up. We had a car and could zip around easily. Would recommend this place to anyone. Thanks for the great stay!

We had a lovely relaxing time. The house is in a great location on the edge of the village; it is a real authentic old Turkish house in contrast to the new apartments that comprise most of the accommodation in the area. The house is centrally located and it's easy to get to the other villages and to Bodrum but is private and not overlooked by anyone. We loved sitting out beside the pool or on the patio and had some great sunsets to admire. The house was comfortable, good bed and plenty of hot water and a good shower. It has a 4 ring cooker but it would be useful if there was a microwave and/or grill for those who want to do their own cooking. Wifi is via a mobile access point rather than a fixed line which we had some problems with but Frank and Berna replied very promptly to our calls and did their very best to resolve the issues. They reduced the price for the Wifi which we appreciated. We'd recommend the house to anyone who wants a peaceful holiday in an authentic setting.

We had a wonderful stay at Frank&Berna's place. The Village House is very private and has a beautiful location near Yalikavak. Do not expect any luxury, the inventory is complete however basic. The pool is great for cooling off and the porch is amazing. In contrary to large apartments block located near the coast, this house is one of a kind and authentic. We were welcome by Vedat, Franks handyman, who was very friendly but does not speak English. A folder with many recommendations on where to go, what to visit and where to eat in the area could be found in the house and was very useful. We rented a car for the duration of our stay via Frank, which was a great decision. It allowed us to easily visit the city center of Yalikavak, Bodrum and other places on the peninsula. One could also take the dolmus (small bus) that stopped near the house frequently, but having the car allowed us to make day trips and gave us a great sense of independence. If you plan on going to Yalikavak, visit the New Marina. It is very impressive to see and despite the expensive Versace stores, you can have a great and cheap dinner at the restaurants while overlooking the marina. If you are looking for some peace and quiet, this is a great place to stay!

A great house with a wonderful, authentically Turkish feel to it. West facing, so late sun on the terrace — lovely for an evening drink (Frank provided a bottle of his homemade wine!). We didn't have a car but this wasn't a problem with the main road a 5 minute walk down a (very steep) hill and relatively frequent buses. Frank has also provided a lovingly-complied information pack with lots of local recommendations in it. House stayed cool in the sun and was a great secluded base, away from the bustle of Yalikavak. Definitely recommend but make sure you print a map to take with you and ask how the bus system works!!

We had a lovely time here. The house is tastefully decorated and well equipped for a rustic holiday. It has private parking, and is not overlooked by any properties. The outside area is well designed with lots of places to enjoy the views towards Yalikavak. The pool was amazing to plunge into on hot days and to enjoy the sunset with a drink in hand. On arrival we were in contact with Frank by phone and were met by Vedat, his smiley handyman. We had a lovely welcome pack that included some of Frank’s produce; some of which we later bought as presents for friends and family back home - highly recommended! Frank was on hand if we had any queries, and the short guidebook he has created within the house was really useful, providing good information about the surrounding area and reviews of restaurants. The house is also a great place to explore the peninsula with a main road not very far away. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Gokcebel, and would stay again if we were to visit the area in the future.

The cottage was absolutely great. Our expectations have been fulfilled in every way. Everything was tidy and clean. The location is elevated with a great view over the valley and to the sea. Due to this and the constant light wind there was no need for airconditioning. The pool ist highlight of the place. Not for swimming, but just to cool off from time to time. The sunsets have been stunning and true spectatcle every evening. We can recommend Frank as a great host, with thorough knowledge of the area. He is a true enthusiast. You definitely need a car, it gives you all the flexibility to check out the many beaches around Yalikavak. By car the trip to the city center takes just 5 to 10 minutes. I can recommend the place without reservations. Well done Frank
