Cactus Bungalow is a peaceful space to relax and enjoy Cerritos beach and the Baja desert. This is a private hotel room with private bathroom in Casa Marina Guest House. A ten minute walk along a desert trail brings you to Cerritos, the best swimming and surfing beach around. While a quick walk to restaurants, bars, yoga, surf, the property feels remote and wild. Enjoy sunset from the hammock, stargaze around a fire after the beach or enjoy the art galleries and amazing food of Todos Santos.

The space
This area is for people who want to get away from the city and have an adventure in the desert, to play and surf in the pristine waters of the Pacific, to relax in a small town immersed in art and culture. We are in Los Cerritos, a beach neighborhood 8 miles south of Todos Santos (15 min by car). Todos Santos is a charming, vibrant, artist village, with great restaurants, shops, galleries, and cultural events. Cerritos Beach is the main beach in the area for swimming, playing, and for consistent surf. The beach has a very welcoming vibe, with families playing in the water, people of all ages taking surf lessons, and folks enjoying tacos and margaritas at a couple waterfront restaurants. In the winter you can’t look at the water without seeing a whale blow. The other beaches in Todos Santos are beautiful for sunsets, but are unswimmable due to steep shorelines and large waves...so Cerritos is the place to enjoy a beach vacation. Our little neighborhood has several great restaurants and bars with occasional live music as well as options for hiking, yoga, surf lessons, and massage... All within 10 min walking distance. Within 5-10 min drive you’ll find grocery stores, spas, coffee shops, an organic market and bakery.

Important Note- This accommodation is best enjoyed with a car. The closest that public transportation comes to this property is 1 mile away. You are welcome to stay here if you don’t have a car, just be prepared to walk from the highway or take a taxi from Todos Santos (300 pesos). There is no uber here. There are some great restaurants within walking distance but stores and more complete dining options are a short drive away. And you’ll want to explore all that this area has to offer!

Guest access
Cactus Bungalow is in a boutique hotel with a total of three rentals, with stylish decor and an immaculate private bathroom with a steaming shower and great water pressure. The space is cleaned using COVID protocol and there is no shared space other than the fire pit. The sliding glass door entrance leads to your porch with an ocean view, private hammock and lounge area. We have some of the best internet in town (better than the coffee shops) so this is an ideal place to remotely work. The bungalow has high quality queen mattress, 100% cotton sheets, fluffy towels, a plush comforter, beach towels, beach blanket, and a yoga mat. There is a convenient outdoor kitchenette, with refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, organic coffee, tea, plates and cutlery, and endless purified drinking water. There are numerous surf boards (8ft foam), boogie boards, and beach umbrellas available for guest use. The parking area is in a secure lot within a fenced yard. Our guests can rinse off beach sand in the hot/cold outside shower and enjoy the evening stars next to a peaceful fire with provided wood to burn. Casa Marina has strong ceiling fans and a fairly constant ocean breeze (we are at least 5 degrees cooler than Todos Santos), but does not have air conditioning. Many people do not realize that it is chilly here at night from Dec-June so the more important thing to note is that the bed has a warm comforter. We are 100% off-grid, run on a robust solar system and have water trucked in weekly to our cistern. While we have all the comforts of home (plenty of power and water) we are very environmentally conscious and every effort has been made to efficiently use resources. When we have a few cloudy days in a row we may need to run the generator for a couple hours during the day to top up the batteries.

Other things to note
The roads in our neighborhood (and everywhere except downtown Todos Santos) are dirt and bumpy. Any car will work fine but smaller cars need to go slow over the big bumps.

We have two other rentals including: another beautiful bungalow just like this one, and a restored vintage airstream with a full kitchen, private deck, and detached bathroom. If you rent more than one you get a 10% discount.

Our town has so many wonderful activities to offer. If you want to adventure in nature there are several scenic trails to hike, you can help release newly hatched sea turtles into the sea (Dec-May), you can ride horses along deserted beaches or into the hills, take an ATV tour into the backcountry, take a surf lesson or rent a board and catch some waves. You’ll be sure to have awesome stories and photos to share with your friends back home. If you are seeking wellness and relaxation, do yoga at one of several local studios, get a massage on the beach, go detox in an infrared sauna or float spa, eat at one of several organic farm-to-table restaurants. We can give you all the information you need to create the retreat you desire. This area is a great jumping off point for taking day trips to other parts of Southern Baja California Sur. Cabo San Lucas is 45 minutes south, where you'll find renowned sport fishing, scuba diving, and more of a touristy night club scene. La Paz is 1 hr 15min northeast, where you'll find a vibrant Mexican city and gateway to the Sea of Cortez, called the World's Aquarium by Jacques Cousteau. We highly suggest adding a trip to La Paz to go swimming with gentle whale sharks (Nov-May), snorkeling at the famous sea lion rookery "Los Islotes", or kayaking in the electric turquoise waters of Balandra Bay.

I am a traveler and nature lover who is particularly in love with the ocean and her inhabitants. My husband and I were exploring by sailboat for a few years, until we decided to grow roots and our family within the magical community we stumbled upon in Pescadero. I love to dance to live music, play in the ocean in just about every way, connect with and learn about people from all walks of life, and catch the sunset every night.

During your stay
The owners live on site in Casa Marina Guest House and are available if you have questions about the area or to make your stay more comfortable. We love to get to know our guests and enjoy hearing your stories, and sharing info about the area, though you have complete privacy and may only run into us in the parking area. We have a medium-sized dog named Noche who does an excellent job keeping an eye on the property, which is helpful in this remote area. She barks a little when people arrive and then keeps to herself or with us. We also have a toddler who can at times be heard laughing/crying/chatting and seen exploring the yard.
