Turtle Point Outpost is like stepping back in history. Built in the 1940s, these cozy cabins were once used by folks coming from far & wide by train and by car for fishing, hunting and simply relaxing by the lake. Not much has changed. The cabins retain their nostalgic cozy feel, Grant Lake remains quiet and pristine, & the hunting and fishing opportunities in the surrounding area remain un-matched. For even more info, search Turtle Point Outpost on the internet.

The space
Please note Turtle Point Outpost is Dog Friendly but Only With Prior Notice and Approval. Please let us know if you are planning to bring along your four legged furry family members!

In the area surrounding Turtle Point Outpost is the famous Turtle Flambeau Flowage, and it is a short 2 miles just down the road at Murray Landing boat launch. Grant Lake is good for relaxed casual fishing, most catches consist of pan fish like Bluegill, Crappie and Sunfish, though there is the occasional northern.

If you're not into hunting and fishing..... Grant Lake is perfect for lazy floating and other low key water sports. At a perfect 115 acres, the only access to the lake is through 2 privately owned boat landings. One of which is located at Turtle Point Outpost. So that means if you enjoy a lazy float in the lake under the summer sun, you won't be disturbed by the boats racing by. In addition, it is the perfect lake for kayaking, paddleboarding and taking a spin on our peddleboat. If you have a pontoon, it's a great lake for anchoring in the middle and playing the lake all day or a relaxing cruise to see all the corners of this beautiful northwoods lake. In addition, if you like to cruise on the pontoon all day, we're only a 15 minute drive to the popular Manitowish Chain of lakes, which consists of 10 lakes to explore.

In the fall, this area is amazing for colors. Winding forest roads will burst with color as you explore the area during the change of seasons. There is so much to enjoy here in all the seasons, it's tough to describe.

From the vertical log siding, the screened in porches and the knotty pine interiors you'll feel like you've stepped back in time during your stay at Turtle Point Outpost. Each of the cabins has two cozy bedrooms and all the things you will need for a great northwoods vacation. And each cabin has a wonderful screened in porch that faces the lake, which is perfect for relaxing and enjoying your morning coffee or afternoon happy hour. A full size refrigerator and a cabin size gas stove / oven will help you prepare amazing meals during your stay here. They also have wonderful porcelain cabin sinks that help them retain their nostalgic feel. The cabins come fully stocked with plates, silverware, glasses, pots & pans, kitchen linens, bath linens and of course cozy bedding. There are even some extra blankets that will help you stay warm as you enjoy an evening out on the screened porch during the crisp fall months. In addition, there is a radiant heater in each cabin for those nights when it gets just a little bit chilly.

Mercer, Wisconsin, United States

Turtle Point Outpost is located in the Northwoods of Wisconsin in Iron County. It is located 7 miles from the center of Mercer, WI which is home to the 16 foot tall Claire de Loon. Though it is just 7 miles from the center of town, it is very secluded, rustic and private. You will certainly be able to get away from it all on a visit to Turtle Point Outpost.

I am a technology professional. I have worked for multiple fortune 500 companies building teams and driving Agile & Cloud transformations. In addition to running Turtle Point Outpost with my husband TJ's help, I'm currently an independent IT Consultant focused on helping companies, teams and individuals reach their potential. I also have deep roots in this area, so in a way I have come home. Though I grew up in Minneapolis, my family is from this area. My Dad and his parents are from the Ironwood / Bessemer area and my Mom and her parents are from the Hurley area. My maternal grandfather built a hunting camp from the trees on his 40 acre plot of land just north of Turtle Point Outpost and I grew up spending time and creating memories that shaped me in that camp in the winter. I also love all things outdoors in Northern Wisconsin and am an avid Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers fan (of course!!!). My husband TJ is an accomplished software engineer that works remotely for a great fortune 500 company. He is an Iowan by birth, but has embraced all things Northern Wisconsin from skiing, to ice fishing, to ATVing, fishing, hiking and all things in between. After he's done building awesome technology for the day, you can usually find him out on the lake - - Ice Fishing in the winter or fishing from his kayak in the summer. He's an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Seattle Seahawks fan in the land of the Packers and Badgers. TJ has become a bit of a northwoods lumberjack and has learned to fell trees, split logs and build AWESOME fires. He is always busy doing something to insure Turtle Point Outpost is at it's best. When you visit Turtle Point Outpost you will also meet the beautiful dogs of Turtle Point Outpost; Lugene they Greyhound and Eleanor the Borzoi. They are nothing short of friendly, but be careful if you pet them because they will lean on you to insure you don't stop! We are all looking forward to sharing our Northern Wisconsin paradise with you at Turtle Point Outpost.
