oven doesn't work, there are ants around the kitchen, and i'm pretty sure that it was bed bugs that bit me and my friend. i hate to point out these issues because other than that douglas was extremely hospitable and the apartment had all the necessary amenities and more.

Response from Douglas:
The oven works fine and there are no bed bugs in any of my apartments. During the wet summer months (low season) in the Caribbean, you will see more bugs (and a few more ants) in general because of the moisture and summer heat. When things dry out during our high season (December through April) the humidity level goes way down and the bugs disappear. I would recommend that you spend a little more money and visit us again during our more comfortable high season.

This place is JUST what I expected, which says a lot when it comes to trusting an Airbnb owner to be upfront and honest with the description and pictures. Doug's place was EXACTLY what I expected. Doug met us upon my arrival and gave us a grand tour of downtown. He makes it "easy" to enjoy your stay. If your thinking about staying in a resort or a hotel...DONT... stay at Doug's place in downtown St. Thomas, because there is a difference between enjoying your visit St. Thomas and enjoying your stay in St. Thomas. No doubt I would rent Dougs place over and over again. Go ahead...confirm your stay. Its totally worth it. The bed is divine. So peaceful and serene slept straight through for 14 hours during my stay. Talking about R&R. lol Enjoy! I sure did.

Forgo the Olde Danish Kitchen. Sorry to say it was rusty and crusty. Although the place was large enough it certainly needs a remodel. Its walking distance to the downtown area.

No where in my listing is there any mention of a pool or a barbecue pit. Also, if you require a new bath towel each day, you need to request things of this nature BEFORE you make a reservation...please, not when you arrive.

The apartment is in the perfect location central to everything you would want to see/do on the island. Doug was very helpful in providing maps and suggestions on places to eat and beaches to visit. The provided beach towels and toiletries is a nice touch. We highly recommend staying with Doug and will definitely return!

The apartment is in a convenient location between both east and west ends of the island, making it very easy to choose beach locations to go to. It's right by a corner store and just steps away from some historical sites which we very much enjoyed! Douglas was very kind, accommodating, full of great suggestions and made the check in and check out process very easy. He gave us a tour of the downtown area to orient us when we got to the apartment which was appreciated. Douglas also provides two beach towels which was two less things to pack! I would highly recommend staying here!

My husband and I ended up in St Thomas last minute and were trying to find a nice, and safe place which was close to all the restaurants and shopping areas and thankfully we found Doug's place. It was clean and he was so nice to us and even allowed for an early check in. He gave us all the information we needed such as things to do and places to eat and even had print outs for everything. The area was super convenient and close to downtown Charlotte Amelia and walking distance to Frenchtown. You do need a taxi or safari to go to Red Hook which was convenient from the location. The apartment is opposite the Bunker Hill Hotel which is good as its much safer and very well lit in the night. Overall I would recommend this place and would stay here again. It's clean, safe and close to almost everything. I am very picky about where I stay so believe me when I say that this was an amazingly charming house but does get a bit loud in the night as its close to downtown.

The location is great, in the center of Charlotte Amalie, walkable to shops, restaurants, bars, ferries (to St. John and to Water Island), taxis, and safaris. Doug was super helpful; went over the layout of the island, and even walked us around a little bit so we could get our bearings.

I moved to St.Thomas from Washington,DC where I was actively involved in a very frantic and stressful real estate market. When things would get particularly hectic, I would slip away to St.Thomas for a few days to regroup and recharge. After my fifth or sixth visit here, I decided that I really liked island life and started looking at properties to buy. Before I knew it, I bought three historic buildings (all in desperate need of renovation) with twenty apartments, sold my last property in DC in 2003 and never looked back! I've since sold one of the buildings and now have just the two with twelve apartments. One of my listings that I call "The Olde Danish Kitchen Cottage w/Wi-Fi" is in a well-known five-unit building built around 1820 that I call "Casa Santa Anna" (it was owned in the 1850's by the infamous Mexican General Santa Anna of Texas's Alamo fame). The other listing called "Historic Danish Kitchen w/Wi-Fi" is in a seven unit building that is registered as a "certified historic structure" deemed important for renovation purposes by the United States Department of the Interior (it was first surveyed in 1833), that I call "Bunker Hill". Who knows, maybe one of them will charm you into making a reservation!
I don't mind sharing my ideas, experiences and favorite places on St. Thomas or anywhere in the Caribbean with my guests. If you want to take home a real island experience, you'll find it here.
Escape for a few days, or maybe a lifetime!
